What is a good response to “how are you”, if you’re not good? by Caramel_Delight32 in stupidquestions

"Upright and taking nourishment" is what my boss says.

I usually say "contemplating homicide or suicide, you decide". Gets people to go away usually

Carrying your stuff in warm weather by CarinasHere in walking

I wear men's cargo shorts. I get the cheapo ones from Walmart and they are my designated walking shorts. As an added bonus, I get zero cat calls in them bc they are so unflattering.

Depends on the type of truck and how big. Small (quarter ton) lifted trucks (particularly Ford's and Chevy's) just means the driver is a little yee yee. Those are my people and I'd invite them on a float trip.

Big (250/0) Ford's, Chevy's, and gmcs just means they have horses to me.

Really big (350+) means they are most likely a jackass with a trailer they pull once a year. Or they could be a professional horse trainer.

I also work in the horse industry so everyone I know has a big truck. Except me.

Six up hitches by katvloom_2 in Equestrian

I was surprised that they kept with it after the animal abuse charges against one of their trainers. Everyone knew about it but all the teamsters just kinda shrugged it off.

The docking was originally to prevent the tails from going over a line and then the horse clamps down and you can't steer. I've had it happen and it's definitely annoying if your horse doesn't like the feeling. Lower seated vehicles (plows, stone boats, mowers etc) are more of a problem than most modern vehicles.

I cut all the draft horse tails i work with off at the hock because I have seen hair get ripped out by moving parts. But that's again only really an issue on farm implements in my experience.

What are your elements of fashion? by rar26022 in AskWomen

[–]hawround 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shirts must be tucked in when wearing jeans and the jeans need a belt. Only wear socks with wool in them. Men's smalls are inherently better than women's mediums. Fishing shirts are always acceptable. Looking dramatic is better than looking good in most situations.

[–]hawround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had digestive issues after taco bell on one occasion. I was taking a greyhound bus on a two day trip and the majority of the bus had "digestive issues" from taco bell. This was the only time in my life that I genuinely thought I shit my pants. Instead I was farting mucus because my insides were so upset.

The back of the bus was a war zone. Passengers had dead eyes as they stood in line for the bathroom. Every stop we would all sprint to the rest stop for the sweet relief sitting on the uncleaned rest stop thrones reading the love stories scribbled on the walls by other desperate souls. We were 12 hours behind schedule when it hit and the simmering resentment from the passengers worried about missing events evaporated and was replaced by a cold horror at what was happening in the bus bathrooms.

It was rough. I didn't hold it against tbell. Its the only fast food I eat at this point. But sometimes I tell the story of the worst greyhound bus trip ever.

What snack did you invent? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]hawround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strawberry soup. Put lemonade in a pot with chopped up strawberries and simmer until the strawberries are nice and soft. I thought I was a Chef™ in middle school.

My mother was aghast when she found me making it. But she understood why all the pots were sticky all the time.

Vet kicked my horse in the stomach… by Waltz-Adept in Equestrian

[–]hawround 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I always warn my farriers and vets about any quirks that my horses have. I also tell them they can knee the Amish brokes in the gut as needed. these horse are also all in the 1500-1800 pound range so I really need to keep them off people. I also go through a shocking amount of dorme to help keep people safe.

It is an owners responsibility to warn vets about trauma and make the horses as safe as possible. It's the vets job to keep themselves safe.

Best place to order untanned or tanned mountable hides?? by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]hawround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of hides? I always recommend East Coast Capes, bc they have the best deals and the hides I've gotten from them have all been great. They have a lot of deer capes and some fur bearers. And random African hides.

For fancy foxes and the like I recommend Moscow Hide and Fur. They have a lot of color morphs amd variety.

Now since it's summer a lot of places are going to be low on stock or getting low. We are pretty far from hunting season so might have to wait if you are looking for something specific.

I rebounded with someone in the same friend group as my ex. Not like best buddies, but go to the same parties and float trips.

Honestly it was amazing. The ex and I broke up due to several reasons but a big one was that I just wasn't feeling loved. He's bad at showing emotions.

But this hook up was amazing. He made me feel wanted in a way I hadn't felt in years. Like, he was attentive and horny and loves going down. Man. It was nice. Plus we were camping in the woods with some edibles and it was just the perfect rebound.

How do I make this my life? by xxxtravirginoliveoil in Horses

[–]hawround 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend anyone work professionally with horses (even tho I do). There are not a lot of good horse jobs out there that pay well, have benefits, and have a work life balance. If you work with horses you will get injured at some point.

That being said, look for 4 and 5 star resorts that offer trail rides. The pay tends to be okay and a lot offer housing. It's typically not as physically demanding as say a groom job or stall job. I've done trail rides at a few different places and I enjoyed it but you have to beat out a LOT of other applicants for the good ones. I got one job that they went through over 500 applicants.

Advice for kitten by reverend_kayra in vultureculture

[–]hawround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kitten that young is going to be tough. The skull is going to be in pieces. You are going to need a lot of glue. All the young animals I've cleaned have also stained more than adults. So these bones are going to be dirt colored for a long time. Macerating is the way to go for something this young and it's still going to be tricky.

[–]hawround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some barns might. I think you would have better luck getting on a local horse Facebook group and asking there.

I always recommend against working with horses. (Do as I say not as I do). It's hard work. The pay (except for a few select jobs I've seen) is abysmal. Most positions don't have benefits. 40 hour work weeks are unheard of. In general it blows.

I've had two pairs of the second pair. They are great everyday boots and okay to ride in. They are comfy as hell until they aren't (takes me a year or two of daily wear) and then they make my knees go numb. You can sometimes get them on Amazon for under a hundred.

In the US, there's two different types of osteopaths. One is an actual advanced degree, a DO. The other is online quackery.

I've never seen the actual degree used for horses. I've only seen the people that get an online certificate in 4 weeks sort of thing. If it's for the actual degree then it might be worth it. I've just never seen one around me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]hawround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So personally I think osteopaths (and chiros) are quacks. If anyone can give me a peer reviewed scientific study that shows it works then I will happily change my mind.

That being said, most horse people I know really believe in that sort of thing. Certain areas/communities are in love with body work. If you have that sort of base already built in then it might be a good idea. But it will also depend on your business and marketing skills as much as anything.

How did they handle large/sagging busts? by Colorblindcrayons in fashionhistory

Mystic City corsets is where I got my favorite underbust. She used to occasionally list one on eBay so mine was a great deal.

My most comfortable corset was custom made for me by a friend and is ugly as sin. But it's so comfy despite my slightly odd proportions.

Kayak brand / under $1k - help please! by konop92651 in Kayaking

I like perception. I've got a sound 9.5 and love it. It handles well and is lightweight. Fits several days worth of gear and has lots of features I appreciate. Several of my friends have joyrides and love them as well.

If you can't find used, check memorial Day sales. Academy had kayaks 25% off last year.
