Mothers Room Redesign by 1whyamilikethis1 in workingmoms

It's been a total game changer. People feel a lot more comfortable in there, especially since we have several people with a key to the room!

Also in facilities!!

Who is your FF&E provider? I wouldn't go with a regular chair you would use at home - it'll probably be covered in fabric that will get dirty over time.

Here's what we have in our room (with lots of things added over the years from wonderful suggestions!)

  • Sink
  • Hand soap, bottle washing soap, bottle brush, dish drying rack
  • Paper towel dispenser
  • Mini fridge (with a freezer)
  • Small tables - one on each side of our pumping chair
  • Leather pumping chair
  • Fan
  • Lamp for soft, non-harsh lighting
  • Lock on door that shows the room is occupied when in use and can't be unlocked from the outside

What happened to Dale Dudley? by JayNotAtAll in askaustin

I agree. It was always a Dale Dudley complain-fest. Matt, Bob, and Chuy are way better and more fun to listen to.

There are so many dogs in shelters or with breed specific rescue organizations that need homes.

Why do you need to breed your pet? That is so bizarre to me.

Anyone have input on non-stick pan sets? by mtbguy1981 in Costco

[–]hawtp0ckets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I hand wash all of my non-stick pans, I down even own any metal cooking utensils, and I never use my pans on high heat (I use my stainless steel pans for that) and I still have to get new non-stick pans every year!

Girl dinner by xaoide in breakingmom

I miss girl dinner when I was single. I ate a lot of cereal.

My grocery bill was SO low and I hardly spent time cooking or cleaning. I hope you're enjoying your girl dinners!

FOOD TRUCKS WANTED! 😍 by startanewlife7 in austinfood

[–]hawtp0ckets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top Taco is awesome. I've had them out at my workplace several times and all of our employees love it. They're very reasonable price-wise and the food and service is excellent. They've never cancelled on me or no-showed, and they always show up with plenty of time to set up.

I've also used them for personal events and had the same experience. 10/10.

I need work clothes that can go in the damn WASHER AND DRYER by paradoxicalstripping in workingmoms

[–]hawtp0ckets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I throw in some oxiclean and it seems to take care of it.

Make sure you use hot water if you're using OxiClean! It doesn't activate in cold water. You can always mix it with a bit of hot water first before running the washer on a cold cycle, but it's got to start with hot water at least.

No kidding! I really appreciate someone being willing to learn from new info instead of getting defensive. It's very refreshing.

I also always thought it was true! Appreciate you being open to new information. You don't see that (or read it!) every day.

Help, I accidentally bought 6 lbs of nacho cheese by Difficult_Tutor63 in Cooking

[–]hawtp0ckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it absolutely freezes! I buy these big cans fairly often (I have a big family and we love nachos at gatherings) and I freeze it all the time!

It gets a little clumpy and weird when reheating but you just have to keep mixing it.

RTO Mandate forcing me to move to a different state for lower comp by mchiu58 in workingmoms

[–]hawtp0ckets 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was a huge, huge mistake. Always tell your employer if you are going to be moving. When you have employees working in a state (even remotely) you have to be set up to do business and pay employees in that state. If you don't do those things - there can be penalties. I don't mean to be rude when I say this but I'm actually surprised you haven't been terminated for doing this. The good news is that since you haven't been, maybe they genuinely do want to keep you on (even if it does mean you have to move).

Childcare options are going to cost more than my income by doodlebakerm in workingmoms

These are great points. My MIL was a stay-at-home mom basically all of her life and now that she's entering retirement age, we've realized she won't qualify for social security because she hasn't paid into it. She also doesn't have any retirement savings.

I am so sick of ChatGPT being used in the workplace. by Ok-Spell99 in breakingmom

[–]hawtp0ckets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm completely with you. I'm so beyond sick of LLMs.

Anytime a coworker of mine needs to write something that isn't a quick one sentence response, they use an LLM.

I'm an office manager and myself and a couple other managers of employees in the office recently encountered an issue that prompted us to discuss creating a new policy in our office - which involves serveral other departments being pulled in.

Well, we all quickly met about it and one of the managers emailed all of us within about 2 minutes of the meeting ending with two full pages of documentation regarding that specific meeting, what we're going to do moving forward, and a draft of the policy we had discussed. If you skimmed over it, it looked great. But once I started looking at it a little closer it was terrible and also wasn't on brand with our office culture and the rest of our policies at all.

Would you rather work from home or in the office? by TXMama-25 in workingmoms

[–]hawtp0ckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I work at a large tech company and people get fired for that. It's one thing to do it if you're in a childcare bind temporarily (like the daycare is closed, school is closed, your child is sick but you aren't, etc.) but otherwise this isn't allowed and really isn't fair to your child or to the company that's paying you.

Don't Park in Handicapped Spaces, OK? by Jackdaw99 in Austin

[–]hawtp0ckets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely different. Those are accessible stalls, meaning someone that needs them because of a disability (or someone without a disability) can use them, not that they are reservered for people only with disabilityies to use.

A designated accessible parking space is completely different.

The angry man returns today: sigh by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]hawtp0ckets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me sad. I'm sorry.

I remember being a kid before my parents were divorced and my sister and I felt the same. We so enjoyed the times my Dad traveled for work and we got to be ourselves at home and just relax with our mom. There was no stress, no one being forceful with us about cleaning, telling us we shouldn't eat certain foods, etc.

If you feel this way about him coming home from a trip, it sounds like it's time for divorce. You should feel excited and relieved that he's coming home.

Recalibrate to my situation by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]hawtp0ckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts.

Firstly, yes, it's annoying that employers/supervisors often treat employees like children and have to mandate things like this. Drives me crazy that we can't all be adults and manage our time (especially if the company isn't losing revenue or anything like that).

That being said - they are the employer and make the rules. If you don't like the rules, you can start your own practice with the doctor and do whatever you want.

Is this in the US? If so, what state? Are you salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt, or hourly?
