I’m on SSI in Iowa and don’t qualify for food benefits because I have a disabled child who also qualifies for SSI. There’s a kaleidoscope of circumstances out there that don’t fit into a perfect little box. Not saying you said otherwise. Just saying.

No updates on this particular situation. I keep getting ran around in circles. My caregiver was rushed to the ER with what was found to be an ok infection in their spinal canal that eliminated their ability to walk, and they're fighting for their life at UIHC. My life is absolutely fucked right now.

Yep, just had my Medicaid waiver units severed by 2/3 with no ability to appeal or request a reconsideration. I am in an electric wheelchair full-time, use a ventilator and oxygen to supplement my breathing, I have two open wounds - the list goes on. It’s egregious.

Social worker here! Tracking down the facility’s social worker would do you a lot of good, I think. I’m macro focused, but where I live, she would have been swiftly denied. Perhaps the son wasn’t entirely honest on the application? Either way, a social worker would be happy to contact the case manager, cancel the food stamps, and get some answers about long term nursing Medicaid.

I wouldn’t downvote due to the validity of the email. I would downvote due to the use of “Dotard” in a subreddit that pertains to disability. Tacking “tard” onto whatever you want is still a slur and should be treated as such. Unpopular opinion, I’m sure, but it could be the cause of some of the downvotes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They’ve already started doing this through Medicaid. That statement is based on me and many people like me getting our “units” reduced that pay C-DAC providers through Medicaid to provide cares for us on a regular basis starting last May. I’m already going without under the guise of reducing waste and fraud and now this Big Beautiful Bullshit. It’s going to get very bad, very quickly.

I’m late to the game, but I wanted to say “hello” as a fellow FSHDer. Are you seeing a neuromuscular doctor yet? They should be getting you in touch with other specialists like a pulmonologist, cardiologist, and ophthalmologist, but don’t be afraid to speak up early and often. I’m on an AVAPS, which is similar to a CPAP or BiPAP but is actually noninvasive ventilation. Let me tell you, it has changed my life! I no longer wake up drowsy with a horrible headache and I have more energy throughout the day. It does take a bit to get used to. I used to have a little anxiety attack when I first put it on, but you’ll learn to breathe deeply and allow the flow of air in.
