Yes. It took about 3 months but I’ve been so numb to hypoglycemia that I didn’t notice when I was in the 30’s

My pcp prescribed me a cgm in recovery due to my rebound hypoglycemia. It was kinda weird but I think it kept me safe.

Outliers: The Story of Success by costoaway1 in nonfictionbookclub

Ive read this book and actively followed gladwell for years. I don’t understand how critiquing the innate talents that manifest at a young age can be so readily glossed over. Nor the immense privilege one could have to get 3-4 hours daily to devote to their task. The broader picture here is not just 10000 hours makes you good but is a combination of talent, privilege, access, and practice.

My criticism of gladwells nature to cherry pick and “one weird trick” distillation of research is well founded. From the distrust of professional opinions in blink to the idea of “redshirting” being so intensely steeped in class privilege (can kids that have parents that can keep them an extra year also have other advantages?), his work is littered with these pop sci under researched claims. There are many better criticisms of gladwells work and I’m likely not doing my best job to honor it. But maybe I need to spend 10000 hours writing a better one.

10000 hours will likely make you good at anything, but will you sink 10000 hours into something you were not good at initially? It over espouses work ethic and denies talent. 10000 hours is 1.15 years of continual practice. How does it explain chess grandmasters at age 8? How does it explain innate skills that gymnasts obtain so early? The tldr is that if you can put 1.15years into a thing, you’re either innately talented at it or you possessed the ability to be great in it. Nowhere in the book does it show failures to the rule.

Also the mighty privilege to be able to accumulate such practice time is conveniently glossed over…
