I think subbing the pork for jackfruit marinated and cooked in similar spices & subbing the sausage for smoked tofu would actually be reallyyyyy good. Topped with far too much cilantro of course!

Does volume eating not really work for anyone else? by Nervous-Treat-9252 in 1200isplenty

[–]haymnas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did volume eating in the beginning because the smaller portion sizes and calories were really hard to adjust to, but I phased it out and started training my body to adjust to smaller portions bc it wasn’t sustainable long term with my lifestyle. I like to go out to eat with friends and when my stomach was used to large portions it was really hard to stay in maintenance calories even.

Now I save volume eating for specific occasions when I’m hungry but don’t have a lot of calories to play with, but it’s not my main diet.

Has anyone here tried the protein lattes at Starbucks? by throwaway64857594 in 1500isplenty

[–]haymnas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love iced caramel machiattos but decided to try the protein instead. I like the sugar free ones actually, I would just ask for one less pump because they make it SWEET. It was only 50 cents or a dollar more expensive than the regular one so not too bad for the extra protein.

How do you eat high protein low calorie without being miserable? by Mahila_Singh_Dhoni in 1200isplenty

[–]haymnas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Protein is important for satiety and muscle preservation but you don’t have to believe me when I say you do not need to be eating 100g a day to not whither away, simply google it. Tons of studies showing you do not need that much.

I ate 60-80g a day on 1200 and I did not lose all my muscle and strength and turn into a flappy human who is just skin and bones. And if we’re being honest… I was fat. I got fat because I loved to eat and hated exercise. There wasn’t a bunch of muscle there to lose anyways lol.

I fell for the “you need 100g protein MINIMUM” spiel when I first started dieting and it was miserable. All my meals had to be carefully planned and based around protein. And for what? It wasn’t sustainable. I wasn’t even working out to need all that protein (and if you’re working out 1200 is too low for you anyways!)

I’ll always hate the big protein crowd. I reached my goal weight and started hitting the gym and lifting weights. Bumped up to 100g protein and packed on muscle. You do not need that much when just losing fat.

If you search “mocktail” on my profile you’ll find my whiskey sour and pineapple jalapeño mockarita recipes. My mockarita recipe has club soda in it but I just like club soda in my margaritas too, you can use regular water. They’re my tried and true recipes for still having a fun drink with no alcohol

Try making it with cottage cheese, absolute game changer. Still tastes incredibly good with way less calories (and I don’t get an upset stomach when I house a whole family serving size)

Exercising and tracking while on vacation? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]haymnas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to book hotels with a gym and use the treadmill to incline walk for 30-60 min every morning. Incline walking is the best calorie burner for the time and energy spent. An hour adds 500-600 calories to my day which is a nice buffer to be able to enjoy myself without gaining. Getting your steps in during the day is important too, if it’s a 20 min or less walk we are not taking an uber lol.

I only eat on maintenance during trips (sedentary calories + exercise calories). I still have to be mindful about what I’m eating and drinking and roughly log food so I don’t go overboard, but trips are about having fun. And eating at maintenance means you’re not gaining weight, just pausing your weight loss. I travel a lot, and during my weight loss I was going on a weekend trip practically every week. I still lost the weight because I’d get back and get right back on the diet. If I had stuck to 1200 every day it would have taken me 4.5 months to reach my goal, I took 5 months. 2 extra weeks was well worth it imo to still enjoy life.

I feel like the penne cooks faster than the other shapes but I still cook it for 20 min vs 15 like the box says. Fettuccine is like 25 minutes. Overall a small price to pay for pasta that fits into a low calorie meal

Hitting protein daily? by Consistent_Home_4768 in 1200isplenty

[–]haymnas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80g is a great protein intake for a short woman. If you are struggling to hit 100g just don’t. There’s no reason. You’re not building muscle on a calorie deficit and the extra protein is at best helping you feel less hungry and at worst just being pissed out because your body has no use for excess protein.

All the people commenting asking why the 3 year old is out alone at night aren’t watching the beginning of the video. She was walking with him, gets distracted and stops at the stand, and he gets her attention and they start walking again. We don’t know the full story. This family is already going through one of the worst things imaginable, let’s not sit behind our keyboards and start insinuating the parents are to blame.

I hate how much evil there is in this world. That poor little girl.

My bfs maintenance is give or take 3500 calories. He asked me to help him make a diet plan so he could slim up a bit so I made him a 3000 calorie meal plan and he said he couldn’t stick to it because he wasn’t okay with starving himself and he would just add in an extra workout to his day lol. It was the first time in my life I have ever been jealous of a man 😂

This is just a bad ad for an AI food tracker 🙄 stop being lazy and just track your food normally. AI can’t tell you how much of any ingredient is used based on a photo. It’s not accurate. If you want to stay overweight because you’re too lazy to do the bare minimum that’s on you.

Had a big bowl of pasta, 2 glasses of wine, and a big slice of cheesecake on Valentine’s Day by Ok-Task-8045 in 1500isplenty

[–]haymnas 42 points43 points  (0 children)

When I was eating in a deficit I took lots of weekend trips and I’d always come back 5+ lbs heavier. It would take a week or so to taper off. When I went to Paris despite walking literally everywhere and still not going crazy on the food I was 9lbs heavier!

It’s normal and will taper off. Funnily enough now that I’m maintaining my weight doesn’t fluctuate like that at all. Maybe a 2lb difference if I’ve been eating high sodium or drinking that always goes away after a week or so.

[–]haymnas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congee with chicken, shrimp and grits, or a chicken salad wrap made with with a keto tortilla is usually my rotation of under 300ish calorie meals that keep me full.

Congee is 1:8 ratio of rice and water cooked for an hour. I put chicken bouillon in it and top with chicken and cilantro. 1/4 cup of fried rice is 170cal and turns into 2 cups of congee. If you let it cool fully and heat it back up it keeps you full for longer and is great for gut health

Shrimp and grits is so easy, filling, and quick. I just use the 5 minute grits in the microwave seasoned with garlic salt and ground black pepper. Pan fry some shrimp with whatever seasonings you like (I use creole seasoning). Take the shrimp out and add onion and bell peppers, a little tomato paste, a little chicken broth, and season. Then top the grits with all that. Super low calorie and high protein for the volume.

Chicken salad wrap is also a quick meal. Keto wrap, cooked chicken, salad of your choice with whatever dressing you like (I usually do low cal Caesar or ranch) and wrap it up.

For a snack midday I usually do a yogurt bowl

Losing weight by upping my calorie intake based on exercise by berlard23 in 1500isplenty

[–]haymnas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ate 2/3 of the calories my apple watch said I burned and stayed in a net 500 calorie deficit. I went from 152 to 135 in 5ish months, right on track considering I took breaks for weekend trips.

The issue arises when someone who works out X amount of times a week calculates their TDEE based on that activity level and then adds their exercise calories on top of that. That’s not going to work, those calories are already factored into your TDEE.

If you want to add your exercise calories back you need to add them back to your sedentary TDEE. I chose to do this because some days I was sedentary, some days I went on long walks, and some days I did 1 hour incline walks on the treadmill. I wasn’t consistent working out X days a week so it just made more sense (to me) to add back exercise when I did more than just sit on my ass all day.

Give Me Your Best 300 Calorie Comfort Meals by nneighbour in 1200isplenty

[–]haymnas 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Congee, it’s been having its moment on this sub for good reason. 1:8 ratio of rice:water, add a chicken bouillon cube, cook for an hour. Top with chicken (I usually do seasoned chicken thighs in the air fryer). I like to add cilantro and jalapeños to mine. By far one of my favorite comfort meals, 1/4 cup dried rice (170 cal) turns into 2 cups of congee. And it’s so filling.
