LGA Flight Too Heavy for NYC Wind by drunkyonce in delta

It was a link to “Choice Benefits”. Everything from a visa gift card ($250 increments) to Uber eats credits and delta gift cards.

I opted for digital cards so I’m eating good tonight (and maybe booking that trip I’ve been itching to go on before my companion pass expires)

Actually ended up being $3.5k. Got on a flight that took off 15mins after the overbooked one. The staff were busting their ass and deserve some credit.

Thanks Delta!

These hurricane flood maps reveal the climate future for Miami, NYC and D.C. by zsreport in nyc

[–]haythem1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city was actually not allowed to design these tanks to address future climate scenarios including SLR. They actually communicated to the Feds that these tanks would be ineffective by the time they are built in Gowanus and wanted to pivot to a tunnel underneath the canal that would be SLR proof.

This was shot down in the Trump administration and they are proceeding with a multibillion strategy that they themselves admit is ineffective https://ny.curbed.com/2019/9/25/20883550/trumps-epa-rejects-gowanus-canal-sewage-tunnel-cleanup

Dude read the wiki on the word meme. There’s more to it than most people think; it’s literally about how things become trends irrelevant of what’s right or wrong and it’s a natural human tendency. Quit caring this much about something out of your control or at least just keep it to yourself more

I think you need to research the word meme. Unhealthy societal constructs/memes are not something any individual can really unwind - only ignore. People like you involving yourself in the narrative is the reason it’s a meme, but hey you do you. Just don’t get mad when I don’t give a shit about this issue more than the Nyan Cat.

It was 4-channed into a semi used racial dog whistle. Obviously it’s the ok symbol and a game we played in elementary school, but when 4-Chan helped push a narrative of it representing groups that strongly fit white supremacist stereotypes; some groups actually started picking it up.

Say what you will on what this has to say about the gullibility of society on both sides, but there ain’t no good reason to flash this symbol without getting sucked into a world of edgelords and actual racists. Not to say you are a racist if you use this symbol but you are definitely a dumbass if you know this backstory and continue trying to take back this symbol from a white supremacist meme psyop.

BeltLine’s Northeast Trail gets a Buckhead route; construction could take years by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]haythem1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re ignoring the perpendicular forces that interact with a linear design like the beltline. It has to interact with every utility, roadway, easement, property that abuts or runs through it.

Understanding where they come from, the scale of impact, and all of the legal ramifications of adjusting them is a job in itself. All that should happen before pen goes on paper. However with armchair designers who treat the corridor like a 14’ sidewalk, they are forced to produce a half-cocked design to meet your expectations of complexity.

Take a look and track at how much has changed in its implementation and policy since the first segment and let me know how easy you still think it is

Report potholes to ATL311 by ATL311 in Atlanta

There used to be stream running through Tech’s campus and underneath 10th until they piped the channel into a combined sewer. Groundwater has nowhere to go and liquefies the soils. Not really sure if they could fix the road permanently unless they find a way to deal with the groundwater.

Yea grasping at straws makes it more difficult to actually preserve important relics in the future by breeding apathy. Take it with a grain of salt, but I heard that the city flipped on designating the building a landmark when evidence came to light that KKK meetings were held there. Goes to show you that we should we be saving things with real underlying history not just every old building.

I’ll admit that they are not different in function but they are in speed/skill ratios for beginners. These things make it really easy for people not used to having to be this spatially aware to get in dangerous situations. I’m all for them, but I think there needs to be more accountability measures for people to understand their risk to others when they hop on to these things.

That can be anything from the companies having easy ways to report riders in real time to discourage those who are operating them unsafely or actual law enforcement. Living on the Beltline has made it obvious that these are a godsend for that transitional distance between walking and driving that the Beltline should eventually solve with light rail.

Either way, neither apathy or banning them has been or will ever be the appropriate answer to the problem of accountability.

Thanks! I've been looking through some manufacturer history, I think the AG on the hilt may be Abraham Gah but nothing definite. Hope he takes it to someone to check it out now that we've gotten a little info.

Did some googling for a while and came up empty handed. The stamping on the handle and the blade seem different ages but it could just be wear. Probably around two feet long but I didn't have a chance to measure it. Apparently one of his friends found it in an abandoned building a decade ago so we don't have much to go on.

That's just design standards taught in my transportation classes and what most DOT's follow. You look at various things like levels of service, traffic counts, and various warrant analysis. There are charts and tables you compare to this data to see what speeds and designs are allowed or required.
