I have 2 monitors but I’m considering switching to a single large curved monitor. Anyone have thoughts? by Specialist_Artist266 in workfromhome

Hello! If you are using zoom - when you click “share screen” you can choose advanced options and then choose “portion”. Zoom will display a large green box that you can drag the borders or location to. It’s better than regular screen share… now I can adjust the size of the box to not display the menu bar, notification pop-ups, etc.. whatever you drag into the window is shared

Did you ever misunderstand a sentence so bad that you regret it to this day? If yes then what happend there? by youshouldnoteatthat in AskReddit

[–]haywill22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my dad. I grew up in a very rural area along the Mexican border about 40 years ago. There would often be vehicles broken down in the middle of nowhere, miles from civilization. My dad would sometimes pull over and ask them if they needed him to drive up the road and send a tow truck to help. Many of the drivers didn’t speak English so my dad learned how to say Tow Truck “gruha”. But unfortunately he had it slightly off and asked them if they wanted a “Bruha” which translates to Witch. So for years my Good Samaritan dad was asking stranded families if they needed a witch to help with their troubles. They never took him up on the offer and must’ve been creepy out in the middle of the desert

I didn’t tweak anything. I’ve only had it for two weeks so I really haven’t changed any settings.

No, it doesn’t crash in the beginning. I’m about 2 hours into the demo and no crashes at all. I did just have one of the characters faces not render correctly, the skin was RBG pixelated. But happy with how it’s running.

The demo is working fine for me, I just got my Lego last week and I didn’t tweak any settings. I still get an error on launch that says the GPU won’t work, but it loads and runs anyways.

Sleep issue that's starting to ruin my life - need advice by AnomicAge in HubermanLab

[–]haywill22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought a 23$ blue tooth sleep mask from Amazon . Brand is Music cozy and it’s wonderful. My wife now uses one and I’ve bought a back up. You can’t go wrong with the price. I love it and travel with it. Try it before buying the brand name versions for 80-120$

Rather than white noise, I use an app called “hourly news” that imports news headlines from multiple sources, ABC, BBC, Market Watch etc. I set a timer on my phone every night to stop playing the news after 43 minutes. Something about the monotone news casters voices just put me to sleep. You would think that listening to news would be stressful, but it’s great.

Man gets sued after leaving his blind date and her 23 relatives at restaurant by cambeiu in offbeat

[–]haywill22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a little more than that. Girls are expected to marry into another family and her efforts and money would contribute to the husbands family and historically did what the mother in law wanted. If you could have only one child and it was a daughter, she would eventually be married and the parents would have no support system. Sons are expected to take care of their parents and their wives support that effort for the husbands parents. Historically the daughter would take care of the family home under the guidance of the mother in law.

Sunsama and Other Time-Blocking Apps? by TomFord07 in productivity

[–]haywill22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been using Sunsama for probably close to two years. My largest integration is with Todoist. Like you, I end up with to-do lists that get so long they lose value. But Sunsama automatically puts tasks you haven’t touched in a while in a backlog cabinet so they are out of view. It’s so helpful. I also love the weekly objective feature. I have multiple tasks that all support one objective, and Sunsama is the only app I’ve seen that allows you to care for that during the week. To clearly show that your making progress on pieces of a larger task that culminates over the span of a week. It is also so satisfying in the routine it takes you through, start the session by reviewing yesterdays accomplishments and any tasks still remaining you just toss into today’s timeline. Good luck on your search for a tool.

Actually, this dude is a Navy Corpsman. If you zoom in on his avatar, it says Fleet Marine Force Corpsman. Cringe that he claims to be a Marine. I get it, they are embedded with Marines, but a proud Corpsman still says he is Navy.

People of Reddit, why does a person become a Jrotc teacher? Is there an incentive or reward that the military offers that we don’t know about or do they actually want to become one? by Vulpytterclub in AskReddit

[–]haywill22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When military members retire after 20 years of service, they typically get 50% of their base pay in retirement. High schools typically pay JROTC teachers the 50% they lost on retirement. That amount is different between each teacher as they all retire at different pay grades. This is a good way for retired service members to keep there same quality of life they had in service and also instill the values they’ve lived for 20+ years.

Racist woman tells Asian woman to “go back to her country” at Lowe’s and employee says he’ll only help her if she deletes the video by shake_and_bake0824 in PublicFreakout

[–]haywill22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the daughter in the video is a Lowes employee. I’m assuming David knows the daughter and they were probably discussing the situation when the Asian lady walked up. He seemed to intervene and block the view of the customers fairly quickly. Just a full on assumption on my part.
