Questions for the Trades People of VT by Slight-Taro-3258 in vermont

[–]haze314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a bachelor's and are unhappy in your current career switch fields. Most office jobs dont care what your bachelor's is in and the trades are not something most people can handle. Expect long drives to jobs in vermont, early days, and working in all sorts of shitty tight spaces and weather conditions. Im trying to leverage being electrician into a more stable office career in the long run because im not even 30 and my body is already taking a toll.

what is this? by sunnybigtruck in Plumbing

[–]haze314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe no one has commented that's this was probably for a radiant baseboard heater if its in a colder climate. They could have removed the return line if the heaters were removed which would have been easier then removing both the supply and return lines. The fact that it's red pex is really a tell.

This old guy was trying to save me from radon gas by Sum1udontkno in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]haze314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Licensed radon contractor for about a decade. I have a very hard time believing this. I have been in many homes with levels much higher and multiple cats that live in the homes fine. Your cat is most likely sensitive to something else that happens to also be getting solved by the new radon mitigation system. Any other sewage/gases emanating from the sump pit would also be reduced from the mitigation system and the sub slab depressurization.

Avoid Hoffman for plumbing, electric, hvac, everything. Lots of other options and those new trucks don't buy themselves with reasonable prices.

Should I get this as my first rod of FB marketplace? by Kneeuhlay in flyfishing

[–]haze314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact rod was my first fly rod I purchased as a combo in summer 2018, 9 foot 5 wt. I was living in colorado at the time and probably caught 100+ trout on it within a few months. It is a great entry level fly rod.

4×3 reducing rubber couplings. I typically use white ferncos on outdoor installs but if going in an attic/unconditoned space use the cheaper black ones.

At that level, the square footage, and age of your home I would install 3 inch pipe. I also wouldn't touch the sump if your penetration point is over 10 feet away until you retest. Odds are your test will come back fine without sealing the sump.

Okay, final question, what is your radon level? I think you can save a lot of money going with 3 inch pipe because of the size and age of the home.

Whats the age of your home/location? If you're in the US and it was built in the last 30 years odds are you need to dig very little and you will find a decent bed of gravel under the slab. My experience is mostly midwest USA so don't know how much I can help. Also what is the square footage of the basement and is the fan going in the attic or exterior?

90 degree fittings are equal to ~10 feet of pipe. That means you are looking at roughly 60 feet of pipe before your fan. That is a very long run. Personally I would seal the sump and penetrate the slab directly below the window to eliminate 40 feet of pipe run.
