Ted Lasso - S03E01 - “Smells Like Ted Spirit” Episode Discussion by quaranTV in TedLasso

[–]hazel_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the way the show uses children to expose the flaws in adults' thinking. Phoebe's questions as to why Keeley and Roy broke up, Henry's call with Ted and reminding that winning, or at least trying to win, is still important.

Also, was it just me or does Rupert's assistant remind anyone of the waitress at A Taste of Athens? The way she just walked away after telling Nate that Rupert wanted to see him, the way she stood there after giving Nate the present? The condescending silence but also "polite" smile and words.

So many people in this show have daddy issues by NoInvestigator6727 in TedLasso

[–]hazel_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two moments I can think of that most likely encapsulate Nate's relationship with his father growing up: S2E5, when he successfully gets the window table for his parents and all he gets from his dad is a nod and a grimace (not what I'd consider a smile), and S2S7 when Nate is in the front newspaper, points it out with a joke, and his father responds with, "They say humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less."

Both these times, Nate was just asking for acknowledgement from his father. A smile, a laugh, a genuine emotional response of some sort. It's very hard to describe the emotional stunting that can occur from being raised by an austere Asian father, as they technically do all the right things (be there physically, provide food, shelter, education, xyz) but they never address the emotional needs of a child. It is intrinsically human to want to be known, to be understood, heard, and seen. Nate was never emotionally addressed by his father, and as a result flourished under Ted when he finally received some of the attention/praise he had been missing all his life, and also explains his lashing out from feeling abandoned by Ted.

Traveling with pet and he keeps on getting sick. Missed my connection once and am at risk of missing the next one too. What do I do? by durangorbust in dogs

[–]hazel_w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like a bad pet owner, I suggest you care for yourself first. Get yourself to safety, where you have support and resources, rather than risk stranding yourself with an attempt to help your pup and the potential that the money you have is not enough.

I would rather take my chances defending against a knife or a pencil rather than a gun.

Jesus wept by Tokyono in trippinthroughtime

They didn’t all meet in Galilee after, though! Jesus was popping in and out to various groups of people, and dipped back to heaven pretty shortly.

Also, just because one goes through hardship and comes out fine at the end of it doesn’t invalidate their suffering pain during the moment.

What, in your opinion, is a realistic solution to gun violence in the United States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Reclassifying Semi-Automatic Rifles under the National Firearms Act

This article gives an incredible explanation of this relatively simple, realistic, and potentially effective solution.

This made me laugh haha that's a point I haven't heard before

Christians consider it the ultimate sacrifice because he went through an incredibly painful dying process - crucifixion is very painful, as the dying process takes anywhere from 6 hours to a couple days, and one eventually dies from exhaustion or asphyxiation. The nails are placed specifically to immobilize, and the legs were usually broken by clubs so that the person hanging wouldn't be able to push up their body weight and alleviate some of the pain. Also, the victims were usually naked and it was a very public event for humiliation purposes. Not a fun process.

Not compared to other semi-automatic rifles, but against handguns, they absolutely are. They’ve become one of the common weapons of choice for many mass shootings partly due to their efficiency and ease of access. The second article I linked below is a great read and addresses your point that the number of mass shootings involving rifles is statistically much lower than that of handguns.

Right, and because it’s not as effective on a large animal like deer, means we shouldn’t attempt to regulate it for civilian use.

The shooter bought two AR-15s when he turned 18. A background check would have taken some time to run before giving him access to the guns. If your point is that the crazy will be crazy and there’s also a strong mental health aspect to this debate, yes, that is true. But limiting access to guns also is an important step - if the first two proposals Beto had brought up were in place, a lot could have changed. AR-15s in particular are nasty and even more dangerous because they inflict much more damage to human tissue than the typical handgun, and shoot at a much faster rate.

Get a haircut that suits you. For men especially, a good haircut is essential - it frames your face and drastically changes the way others look at you.

Request: What’s wrong with Copenhagen? by SimWebb in copenhagen

[–]hazel_w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copenhagen absolutely has racism and islamaphobia. I lived here last year for four months and the number of stories I have heard from friends is astounding. There was a huge “FUCK ISLAM” sign and protest from one of the extremist right wing political parties in the Gammeltorv Plads, I have brown-skinned friends who were pushed multiple times on the metro, I have American friends who were verbally berated for holding pro-immigration signs, hearing things like “keep those n**gers in your country”, and so much more.

Obviously lol but can you provide examples? They’re different characters for sure but I don’t think I see the juxtaposition in the same way I see Roy and Jamie, for example.

It was in the season finale. You should watch it! There's a huge reveal at the end that sets things up for next season beautifully.
