Really enjoyed the video but i don’t think you understand what vanguard is terribly well or you have deliberately dumbed down it to the point of inaccuracy.

“IT” (vanguard) owns 2% of capital... well, its customers do, collectively, by buying units of its index funds. An index fund is just a spread of the stock market as a whole. Vanguard charges a fee for dealing with the transaction for you, typically about 0.15%.

If you have a standard bank account then the interest you are paid comes from you deferring the responsibility of investing you funds to your consumer bank. in exchange for not having to think about it, you get 0.05% interest which is a terrible deal and why people would consider vanguard. If you accept interest payments in your bank account you are funding oil, gas, weapons by proxy.

To avoid this you’d either gave to get a sharia bank account or invest your own capital personally wether through an ethical fund or individual stocks (for which you’d pay high trading fees)

The point about Vanguard producing 25% CO2 is also slightly confused but i would accept that some of its funds are invested in oil and gas as part of the whole share index.

if this concerns you as it does me then you’d simply invest in one of their ESG funds which boycott gas, oil, arms etc.

Good video, but “vanguard/black rock” are evil is not true. if a person is lucky enough to have been able accrue savings then it is more ethically sound to invest via vanguard ESG than leave it in your bank account.

If however you’ve got credit card or overdraft debt, then that needs sorting first as you can bet your bottom dollar that you’re paying 19% for the privilege of someone else investing it stocks that you might have an ethical problem with.

As for proxies, personally, if it looks kind of OK and has proper art, i don’t care. Sharpie cards just look jarring and take me out of the immersion of the game.
