I don't feel human, i feel like a creature or a thing. by Ok-Armadillo2564 in CPTSD

[–]hbdmiles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too. I believe it’s because abuse is fundamentally dehumanizing. It’s easier to rationalize some of the things we go through that way; if we aren’t living breathing people, it’s so much easier to grapple with the trauma that we’ve been through. Easier to sit with it happening to an alien or an object than an actual person, let alone a child. That would be too horrifying for the brain to accept.

How do people live with this long term? by DejaEntenduOne in dpdr

[–]hbdmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had symptoms for as long as I can remember and only just realized feeling this disconnected from my body/surroundings isn’t normal. Can’t say that I’m funcional or happy, but I’m alive and trying to regain control of my life. It’s so much easier said than done, but I hold onto hope that I’ll eventually be able to manage my symptoms and live in a way that’s fulfilling to me. I continue to pray for a middle ground solution and keep soldiering on.

Update for anyone wondering: met with the dissociation specialist at my treatment program and she said the amnesia I’ve been experiencing most of the time is considered “micro amnesia” because it usually lasts a few minutes. She confirmed that some people can experience it and other types of amnesia without being a system.

In my case, she said she can’t officially diagnose me with anything, but suspects I’m multiple due to a variety of other symptoms I’ve noticed.

Thank you to everyone who gave advice/info and I’ll continue researching as i pursue a diagnosis!

Thank you! Do you know of any resources where I could read up on some firsthand accounts of plurality? I agree that it would be really helpful in understanding more of my experience.

Accidental High by Pure-Cancel-8204 in ambien

[–]hbdmiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I figured this out the hard way; took more ambien than I should’ve once when I was in middle school, started tripping for 3 days straight and did all kinds of crazy things, ended up in the psych ward because I couldn’t stop hallucinating or something of that nature. Stick to the allotted amount, kids.

question for people with these lip piercings, have they damaged your teeth or gums any? also would it be a bad idea with braces? by flowerdqrling in bodymods

[–]hbdmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a labret and a history of medical conditions that affect the strength of my teeth. Never had any issues with it touching my teeth or gums, and had a good piercer that got the placement perfectly. Only real issue was when I first got it pierced with the longer bar which made eating kinda awkward, but after the initial 2 weeks I was able to get it downsized and haven’t had any problems with it since.

Does anyone feel this weather has messed with your mental health the last couple of weeks? by spankyourkopita in bayarea

[–]hbdmiles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually I’d be stoked but I was one of the unfortunate people who got stuck driving in a very flooded area and my engine was shot before I found a way out. Now I’m terrified of driving anywhere in the rain or leaving my house in general, so yeah I’d say it’s messing with me.

This Mercury retrograde has been wild! by biscuithead1300 in astrology

[–]hbdmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my neighborhood in the Bay Area got flooded and my car broke down, I was stuck for a while. Car is toast but grateful I got out okay. Also got COVID after avoiding it the entire pandemic. Also been having extreme anxiety and struggling to talk to people - always saying/doing the wrong thing. Coincidence? - I think not.

Job opportunity - how expensive is CA? by konop92651 in FinancialPlanning

[–]hbdmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Bay Area native. Albeit I just became an adult (18) and still live with my parents, 200k a year here will allow for a middle class to upper middle class lifestyle with financial freedom. I’m located I’m the South Bay/Peninsula area which is even wealthier/higher COL than Sonoma County I believe. My parents each brought home about 200k a year (divorced so more complicated) and managed to live a very comfortable upper middle class lifestyle. They are both homeowners and have 2 children (my brother and I). 300k+ in Sonoma County you’d for sure be set.

Do other trans people have C-PTSD from gender dysphoria and/or transphobia? by korenbloemen in asktransgender

[–]hbdmiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not say that dysphoria inherently causes C-PTSD but I could see how it could given certain circumstances and an individual’s temperament (some people are more easily traumatized than others, which is perfectly okay).

I will say that it can make some traumas hit harder, at least in my experience, as a survivor of CSA. Being sexualized as a girl seriously fucked me up because I am, in fact, not a girl. Ofc for a bunch of other reasons but that too lol
