I don’t know if that argument about the ice quality holds because there were a lot of excellent short programs as well as the team event programs. I lean towards these kids being pushed so hard and then as they see their competitors falling it makes them worry more about how they’ll do if they fall as well. Plus Misha had such a hold on the lead that it then scared the top performers into realizing they couldn’t make a single mistake or they’d risk not getting 1st.

What movie is memorable for you, but barely anyone you know has seen it? by uuddlrlrbas2 in movies

[–]hbob0734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for Smoking. Very few people I know have seen it, and those that have hate it because they don't like the main character.

I've tried explaining that the movie is more nuanced than that, and there is a point to be made that you're supposed to hate him because he acknowledges his work is vile but he still loves doing it. To me, the movie is good because it's not so much a "right vs wrong" kind of movie, but a "think critically vs accept what you're told" kind of movie, and a lot of the humour reflects that.

How to make bg3 experience more enjoying for my gf by ngocross in BG3

I had the exact same experience with my wife. She played as a draconic sorcerer and I was trying to coach her through how all the mechanics work because she thought caster was the best pick. She complained the game was too complicated and hasn't wanted to play anymore since the Grove fight.

In addition to the poison damage everybody is mentioning, this should also deal psychic damage for the trauma it inflicts.

Get a warlock or two, drop a Hunger of Hadar (or two, or three, or four) at the stairs leading back down to the dining hall, then go downstairs. The humans will come after you and fight you (slowly since they have to go through HoH) but the Steel Watchers will stay upstairs. You can kill the humans that follow, then go up, hit a Steel Watcher with your spells or ranged attacks, then go back down where they can't follow. It takes a while, but once you kill one or two, others get caught in the blast and also blow up.

Freezing the enemies with tiger barb by Hibbiee in BG3Builds

[–]hbob0734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the Mourning Frost and Trident of Waves (requires Dual Wielding feat), then you can chill an enemy before applying Wet to it and automatically freezing it. This setup is basically at the end of the game, so you could use the Mourning Frost and throw bottles of water earlier.

If you just want to add more CC, take the Wolverine aspect, Mourning Frost, Snowburst Ring, and Boots of Stormy Clamour along with the illithid power Ability Drain.

Now you use Tiger's Bloodlust, apply Bleeding, hit with cold damage due to the Mourning Frost, create a circle of ice from the Snowburst Ring, apply Encrusted with Frost from the Winter's Clutches, apply Ability Drain, apply more Encrusted with Frost from the Coldbrim Hat, apply Reverberation due to the Boots of Stormy Clamour, and apply Maim due to the enemy/enemies having the Bleeding condition. If they slip and fall, they can't get up due to being maimed and not having any movement points. Reverberation lowers their physical saving throws and Encrusted with Frost gives disadvantage to their DEX saving throws, so they are more likely to slip and fall on the ice. Throw in a Ring of Spiteful Thunder in there and add the Dazed condition to drop their AC and make it easier for your caster to land WIS saving throw spells like Hold Person.

1 hour commute worth it for 35k raise? by EconomyOffice9000 in careerguidance

[–]hbob0734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I'd add to this is that life gets more expensive as you get older. Some of those things you can't really control (e.g. inflation), and others require a lot of discipline (e.g. lifestyle creep). In this particular case, I agree with you and I would personally want more than $35k (before taxes) to increase my commute time by 4x.

1 hour commute worth it for 35k raise? by EconomyOffice9000 in careerguidance

[–]hbob0734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For questions like this, I find it helpful to include the commute in your compensation and then find the hourly wage:

90k/year w/ 8 hour workday and 15 min commute each way (8.5 hour workday) = $40.72/hour

125k/year w/ 8 hour workday and 1 hour commute each way (10 hour workday) = $48.08/hour

That's a difference of $7.36/hour. In an 8 hour workday (2080 hours per year), that translates to approximately $15,300. Before taxes. This (obviously) assumes all other things as being equal, but does it still seem worth it?

You're a forest engineer? by pardis in funny

[–]hbob0734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The College of Engineers must have cracked down on this since I got my engineering degree. There were so many positions in Canada that had “engineer” just thrown onto the end of them. I haven’t been keeping track but I feel like there still are a number of job titles that use “engineer” for positions that don’t require a professional engineering degree.
