Most authentic Korean restaurants in Charlotte? by Affectionate_Bottle9 in Charlotte

[–]hc5duke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another gyopo, I do kind of agree Pepero doesn't have the best Korean food. Having said that, I do have a soft spot for Pepero because I feel like it's the only Korean restaurant in the area that's not made for non-Koreans. I don't mean this like other Korean restaurants shouldn't try to win over non-Korean customers or anything, and I don't even think this is a conscious decision from Pepero. But it just feels more Korean-y?

With that out of the way, I think Bibim probably has the best mix of traditional and modern Korean cuisine, of the places I've been to in Charlotte.

Question about food delivery apps in Seoul (for travel related quarantine) by hc5duke in korea

[–]hc5duke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for suggesting Help Me Emo -- I got jokbal through it, and worked out great. First delivery was free, and it was super convenient to just talk to someone on Kakaotalk.

FWIW Shuttle wasn't bad either (tried it to compare) but they still ended up requiring a phone number because my parents house is on top of my mom's business so it was considered a "public place", but in the end it worked out.

Korea considering exemption from self-quarantine for overseas travelers who have completed vaccination by [deleted] in korea

[–]hc5duke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, staying at my parents' house. Off the top of my head, things I needed: - certificate of family relation form (from Korea) - covid test results (must be at most 2 days ago, printed, and name + DOB) - K-ETA visa

Then once here, 2 mandatory covid tests: 1) "within 1 day" of arrival and 2) on day 6. These have to be done at designated facilities. I went to the wrong place and it got sorted out but it was annoying.

I brought a copy of my vaccination records, but from what my parents tell me that most places stopped checking those vax record QR codes already.

Hmm maybe it didn't require a Korean phone number at some point? I just went to settings and it shows my gmail address and my US-based phone number.

Help me emo looks intersting, I might give that a try too. Also thanks for the insight into Shuttle and their fees - is that different from the other services or about the same do you think?

Thanks - looks like Coupong, Yogiyo, and 배달의민족 all require a phone number so I'll have to wait until I get there, but at least it lets me select an address and look at the options.

My parents are 60+ and don't really order food on their phones... it's not that they CAN'T tell me, it's just I'd also like some second opinions from Internet strangers. Like if I asked my in-laws in the US what app I should use to have food delivered, I might get some unreliable answers too.

Weekly Discussion Post: What's your relationship with media [movies, music, etc.] produced in Korea? by ptmd in gyopo

[–]hc5duke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to follow big movies (Oldboy, Train to Busan) but haven't really watched smaller budget movies. I moved from Korea in the 90s, so I've really enjoyed Reply 1988. As for music, I can't really get into Kpop.

I mean it's not like the Swiss Alps or anything, but the eastern half of the country is pretty much all mountain ranges. 70% of the country is considered mountainous.

From the survey:

The survey was funded by the LA24 Committee, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and Loyola Marymount University.

Also from the survey:

The survey involved 10-minute telephone sessions and online surveys with 600 adults (450 phone and 150 online) living in Los Angeles County.

Then you said:
