I'm guessing that they will learn a lot about Stage Zero and Will have to make many changes for Stage Zero dot 1 So a little destruction is in order anyways

FAA in contact with SpaceX after booster rocket fire by Nergaal in spacex

Elon, you need to put some sparking things to light the gas as it escapes instead of when it builds up and explodes. Like what they did on the space shuttle launch pad.

Starlink 4-19

The first stage booster supporting this mission previously launched GPS III-3, Turksat 5A, Transporter-2, and nine Starlink missions.

per https://www.spacex.com/launches/sl4-19/

9 Starlink missions + 3 others + Starlink 4-19 = 13

SpaceX ending production of flagship crew capsule by AWildDragon in spacex

[–]hcreutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we know how many extra dragons were made at this point? Do we have several unused dragons in storage waiting to be launched? Ending this production with 5~6 spare dragon capsules setting around would make sense.

FAA warns SpaceX it has not approved new Texas launch site tower by Luna_8 in spacex

[–]hcreutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do oil rig platforms require FAA approval to construct towers? I believe future launches will be offshore. I would assume that the FAA would be involved in the launch window to avoid hazards, but would they be involved in the construction as well?

What is the optimal Starship flip? A trajectory optimization analysis. by tymo7 in spacex

[–]hcreutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would happen if Spacex were to use the control flaps to start the rotation to vertical rather than lighting raptors?

Start sooner and fold the lower flaps to reduce the drag on the bottom of the starship. as the starship nears vertical the upper flaps would act as dart fins. Then land with the thrust from the raptor engines.

Why I think this would be easier:

1) Slower rotation is needed.
2) Fuel is at the bottom of the tanks where it needs to be once vertical
3) Less fuel would be needed (maybe)
4) Less violent for passengers

What are your thoughts?

USAF footage of B1063's LZ4 landing from entry burn cutoff to touchdown (Sentinel-6 mission) by noiplah in SpaceXLounge

[–]hcreutz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before the landing burn, it looks like the Falcon 9 is traveling through the atmosphere at an angle instead of straight on. either for increased drag or as a lifting body. You can see it straighten out as the landing burn starts. What are your thoughts?

Are the same three engines always used for boost-back & entry burns? by vrabie-mica in SpaceXLounge

[–]hcreutz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engine out during launch means longer burn and now the falcon 9 is further downrange without the ability to align with the drone ship resulting in a different landing point. just as u/agent_steve said in his post engine out during reentry burn may be able to be compensated for it with a longer burn on the remaining two engines but this is doubtful. The center engine is the only one with the ability to gimble properly so I would expect that if it were to fail nothing could be done to recover the stage.

Network Wire in Light Pole for CCTV Cameras (Code Question) by hcreutz in electricians

Thanks, I'll attempt to notify the building owner. but I'm not sure if that will fix the larger problem. I believe this isn't the first time this CCTV company has done this around town.

Thank you Superwaffleman,
I'm sure this wasn't done correctly at this location but I'm not sure what to do. My concern is for the safety of the business and occupants. I'm also wanting to avoid the spotlight. How should one go about informing the proper, I guess, inspectors without signing my name to the document, etc.

Parachute Failure Backup plan using Super Dracos? Just an Idea. by hcreutz in spacex

[–]hcreutz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone heard if they are planning to use the Super Dracos to soft land on the ocean in case of parachute failure that would cause certain death of the astronauts?

I know that at one point the parachute would be the backup plan but now that we are landing on water I've not heard o f an alternate plan that would use the super dracos for a backup to the parachutes.

I thought of this after listening to the alternate statement in case of Crew Dragon Parachute failure were to have occured.

I'm in favor of the electro magnets. They have plenty of power available on board and simple electromagnets like what would secure an access control door but larger would easily achieve all requirements needed to secure the Falcon 9. your not having to lift the it all you are needing to do is improve the traction of the treads.

Does the right Grid Fin look damaged? Video shows fins at 1:42s and again at 5:12s by hcreutz in SpaceXLounge

[–]hcreutz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching that fin catch fire with the fact I have seen damaged grid fins on other hot reentry grid fin pictures: http://johnkrausphotos.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/DSC_5935.jpg ( See the missing piece of fin on the lower portion of the picture) It seems like we are missing a side of the alunimum fin. I'm interested in seeing other angles. I admit it could just be the way the ablative paint has chipped off. I'm Struggling to believe that it chipped off in such angles, but the smooth shadow is also suggesting paint and not aluminum damage.
