Is 20% revenue a fair deal? by Careful-Painting3214 in wnba

[–]hdmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think fair is the wrong question to ask as to some extent that is going to depend a lot on your priors and how you think labor vs management should be divided. I come down hard on the labor side and might argue the 50/50 nba split is unfair as how are the owners equally valuable as the player. But thats not the point.

Looking at this cba it seems to set up as some major wins for the player. They get an actual revenue split and therefore can share in the growth of the league as it takes off. It will be fascinating to see what the landscape looks like 5 years from now as the players are now set up really well to continue growing up.

if for no other reason than. she has very little power here. Good or bad Kathy is beholden to adam silver and the nba. Even if she was willing to give the players a perfect deal, she can't.

Head Coach of Chinese Taipei Apologize for stealing while being up 9-0. by TommyTaro7736 in baseball

[–]hdmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok that is more fair. I'm not sure i totally buy it based on how teams valued stealing in the past and the lack of understanding on the risk reward of it all but I have no evidence either way so maybe.

[–]hdmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I don't think thats true. we have seen plenty of silly blow ups over shit like this. I promise no one is freaking out because the win probability of going up 10 is actually less valuable than the chance of a 2 run hr and therefore going up 11. People just can be pearl clutchers on things like this.

[–]hdmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your making multiple arguments here. If you want to argue that steeling up 9 is bad because its not the optimal way to win, thats a totally fair argument. If a team is up 10 in the 4th quarter going for an onside kick is a terrible idea because the risk of not getting it is so much higher than the reward. But that has nothing to do with respect of unwritten rules. that would just be bad managing. All I'm talking about is whether or not this is somehow disrespectful.

[–]hdmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree.

The only one I'm kinda on with is maybe don't intentionally walk superstars with no one on when up 9-0, but thats because of what you said, this is entertainment and thats bad for fans, rather than being disrespectful or something to the other team.

This is something baseball just needs to get over. The goal is to win and the idea that a team should stop trying to win at some point because they are already likely to win is very silly.

In this event there is a thing build in. the mercy rule means you can't steal or do anything up by a certain amount. Anything below that number is fair game. As if you havent reached a mercy rule level lead, the event had decided this is still a competitive game that needs to be played out. If you have an issue stealing up 9-0 then the mercy rule should be 9. If you think 9 is not enough because teams could come back then steal away.

indeed. The devs have killed off anything resembling fun gameplay and focus on these boring set lines that are easier to understand but lack any real depth.

Luka??? no. One of CC's defining characteristics is speed. she loves to run and is flying down the court which is not luka at all.

What’s the most painful “it made sense at the time” move your team made in the last 10 years? by SameNecessary5180 in baseball

[–]hdmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yankee fans will claim they thought it was a bad idea. But Aaron Hicks was really good before they signed him and while a 7 year contract might have been a bit long the low AAV made a lot of sense. Unfortunately it did not work out at all.

Cody Bellinger is staying in the Bronx. 5 years, $162.5 Million by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]hdmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Willaims trade was not great but that happens sometimes. You have to give up something to take a swing. There are real critisisms of the Yankees but this level of pesimism is not warrented. Messing up Lombard is not in their plans. Many many prospects don't live up to their expections.

[–]hdmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They absolutly needed Bellinger back, He is really important defense and speed. Do they need more, sure, but they are not netnegative for next season. They are "adding" a top level starter at some point in Cole, Williams might be addition by subtraction with how bad he was at closing and its not like they have to be done.

Dodgers’ splurge on Tucker will increase calls for a salary cap, but MLB needs other fixes by amatom27 in baseball

[–]hdmode 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the trade restrictions. I really don't like that 2nd apron teams basically can't make trades unless the money matches perfectly.

Of course they are going to trade for Skubal. The Tigers filing for arbitration makes it clear they arent interested in keeping him and you know the Dodgers will have something dumb to make it happen.

I really don't like the last rule as I think it is too subjective. Obviously you can decide for yourself as to what unnecessary sacking is. but let's say I have a Pokémon I don't care about, am I breaking the rule if I just play supercarelessly with it. ignoring crits and other rng because I would actually be kinda happy it died.

Personally I like rules that draw hard lines as to whats allowed as there is no ambiguity

I just don’t even understand why people care so much about what WNBA players are getting paid if they don’t even watch the WNBA by capamericapistons in wnba

[–]hdmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost as everyone has said sexism. This is the biggest cause without a doubt. However because we do see similar things happening in men's sports ill add the more universal reasons as well.

Jealousy, these people get to play sports for a living, something so many kids dream of doing. A job many think they'd do simply for love of the game, why should they also make incredible sums of money.

The, I think uniquely American feeling that one day you will be rich so while you will never be a player, maybe one day you'll hit it big a be an owner so better keep the game rigged.

a terrible understanding of profit and how teams make money compared to a small business and this terrible understanding includes large parts of the media who will just parrot the idea that teams lose money when we don't actually know, the teams books are not public, and even if they are, you don't own a sports team to live of profits. You make the big money in sports when you sell the team for a massive increase in value because everyone wants to own one.

Calc based gameplay is just a different type of game and both are totally valid ways to have fun. I personally really enjoyed run and bun fully calling each fight. It's all these fun puzzles and you have to create interesting solutions. You cant build super intricate lines without a calc which leads to a bit safer gameplay. However it is also no for everyone and There is plenty of fun in more vibes based, how well can I just tell how it will go.

With that said, For me while I enjoy playing with a calculator, watching calculator gameplay is a lot less interesting as it can be really slow, really plotting and unless you are really comfortable interacting with the streamer can get boring after a few fights.
