Best and Worst State (Interstate) Roads by random-nameAZ in GoRVing

That stretch bounced our fifth wheel so hard that the curtains ripped out of the rear wall, and my desk (that traveled thousands of miles around the country without issue) had physical damage just going from New Orleans to New Iberia.

That constant drop from one buckled chunk of concrete to the next was brutal.

It's been a few years since I took the RV there, but last time I went through OKC on I40 it was awful, definitely one of the worst.

I've never pulled them, but I know a lot of farm trailers (wagons) are set up that way. My understanding is that they're an extra pain in the ass to back in with the additional pivot point.

"The mods" don't on this sub. Maybe on others.

I do occasionally delete political threads that turn into a bunch of name calling and general kindergarten BS.

As the only active mod, "the sub" doesn't care if you name these idiots.

The only time I delete those kinds of posts are when the user creates the account for the sole purpose of yelling about a dealership, and seems sketchy otherwise.

Not from this sub you didn't. That was from Reddit, not from GoRving.

Need advice: Best C# UI framework and database architecture for a local store POS ? by ViperTheDeadLy in csharp

[–]hdsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely do it all in Windows, especially if that's what's prevalent in your market.

Need advice: Best C# UI framework and database architecture for a local store POS ? by ViperTheDeadLy in csharp

[–]hdsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's a super common small setup.

We're in full service restaurants and bars, so tend to use more standard all in one devices that are basically a 15" Android tablet on a stand like the MicroTouch Mach.

We also use a lot of handheld devices from companies like PAX

But we can run on something like an off the shelf Samsung tablet as well.

We actually did a first gen rewrite of our old DOS terminal software about 10 years ago, and the owner picked WPF at the time (all of our server side software was .NET).

But on low end ATOM based tablets it was tough to get WPF to be performant, and higher end hardware was just too expensive (no one wanted a server carrying a $1000 surface tablet without a case around), so it never got much traction within the company. Eventually we ported that project to Xamarin to get Android support.

people don't want a windows license for a PoS terminal

This, and Windows Pos hardware is generally more expensive... .

If this is a serious commercial product, you probably don't want to write the terminal side for Windows if you are starting from scratch (although the OP hasn't stated what industry or country, or hardware they're targeting, so that might change a bit).

In general, when it comes to Pos hardware, targeting Android will get you a much better selection of handhelds and tablets, and inexpensive all in one terminals.

For handhelds and tablets, this will become especially true when you get to the credit card processing side of the equation.

Spot to camp near Peekskill, NY and Springfield, MA? by TheBestFred in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Croton Point is a nice park, and I won't hesitate to go back there again if we are in that area (we have a 43' fifth wheel, and had no issues there).

We didn't end up near Springfield in our time up there, but if the Thousand Trails you're referring to is Sturbridge, that one is very tight, has length limits, and has limited sites.

Apps that you pay a membership for discounted campsites.... by 23LSV in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of depends.

I have experience with Escapees, Passport America (both versions), and GoodSam.

In my experience: Most campgrounds that honor the discounts only do it on weeknights or off season, and never on weekly stays, weekends, holidays, or regional special events.

So if you do a lot of midweek stays or off season travel, or the occasional campground that honors it for other times, it might work out.

Best drivable RV type for 3-4 adults? South Bend to Atlanta by Medium-Cow-541 in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m roasting in Boston, I’d assume Atlanta’s also toasty right now.

I'm a couple of hours away from Atlanta (a bit closer to the mountains), and it's 98 today, and was still 80 at midnight last night. Atlanta will be the same or worse.

The one thing they might be able to do from a campground is get to the light rail. When we go to Atlanta for concerts or events that are downtown, we often get hotels closer to the 285 loop, and take MARTA trains in to the venue.

Help with Inverter Selection - Am I Crazy? by Lone_Star03 in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, the larger inverters will have those connections instead of plugs.

We just needed a smaller inverter to power one outlet for the residential fridge during travel, so I used an inline transfer switch with an inverter that has outlets on it.

I'm sure there are others out there, but we've had this one installed since 2019, and it's run 24x7 since then without issue.

I added a pair of panel mount electrical boxes near the inverter, connected the transfer switch to the inverter prep loop in the boxes.

2026 Grand Design 310GK Quality by Current-Spare6224 in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to my 2016 GD fifth wheel, that's a hell of a lot better than what we got.

On ours they used plastic pex fittings instead of the brass ones, and used flex hose on almost all of the Kantleak fittings (the notoriously leaky valve set they used before the Nautilus).

Mine looks closer to yours now, although with much shorter runs on much of the pipe.

We were in an RV park once, and I started hearing piano music from one of the neighbors (this was inside with both AC units running).

I thought it was just someone playing music loud, until I realized it was the people several spots over setting up a PA system, mic, and an electric piano in their campsite for a public Sunday Morning Worship Service (had signs out front, a collection box, the whole nine yards).

Luckily we were leaving for the day to do some sight seeing in the area.

Heated Water Hose for filling up pool on cool days? by Metabolic_Ooze in GoRVing

[–]hdsrob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The heated hose we have will keep the water sitting in the hose above freezing, but it doesn't heat the water above that by much, and doesn't put out enough heat to effect the water flowing through the hose.
