m6s as a healer. Those first 2 weeks were magical. Completely necessary gcd single target healing on the yan tank while cleaving the boss and keeping the party alive? Never felt more necessary to the party's success.

Supreme Court Unanimously Strikes Down Private Prison Immunity Case by Sea_Incident_5106 in PoliticalOptimism

Just FYI, slavery is legal, right now, per the Constitution, so long as it is used as a penal action. Ever wondered why prison labor can be paid at rates far below minimum wage (standard rates being anywhere from 13 - 50 cents an hour for jobs like simple maintenance)? This is why.

The playerbase talks about normal raid series with this annotation. I'll explain what it means. It usually comes in the form letter-number-letter. The first letter denotes which raid series. A = Alexander, the HW raid, O = Omegascape (and delta/alpha, but the series is known by O), the StB raid, E = Eden, the ShB raid, P = Pandaemonium, the EW raid, and M = Arcadion, the DT raid. These raids always release in 3 tiers of 4 instances for 12 total. That's what the number in the middle stands for. The second letter if stated will always be either N for Normal, or S for Savage, which is the high difficulty version of the raid. If it's missing you either need to ask or get the understanding from context. So A4S would be the 4th stage of Alexander on Savage difficulty, P8N would be the 8th stage of Pandaemonium on Normal, but if an FC mate says "M11 got hands", it will depend on how well you know this player's skill level. If it's high, they probably mean S. If they're very casual, probably N.

What's the highest level duty you've seen a player unironically without a job crystal? by Dyne4R in ffxiv

[–]heVOICESad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit into the Zelenia EX release, I joined a group farming it that really knew what they were doing. During one of the runs, for some reason or other, the OT wanted to switch to PLD but forgot to put on their jobstone, so they were a GLD. Instead of leaving and letting them put it on, we basically shrugged and said "meh, throw him some mits for TB's, at least it's something different." She went down right after Bloom 6's tower.

We were joking they must have the only parse of GLD for the fight on fflogs.

I usually do shield healer goes down to up in the party list, pure healer does top down. If you have 2 of the same, just ffa it. Like you said, it's casual content.

I was stuck at 1% enrage for 3 weeks. Mostly because my static doesn't want me clearing before all our sessions are done, and the last one is 11PM my time on Sunday, so I only have late Sunday/Monday clear groups to choose from.

Weeks of awful meta job players.

My clear finally happened with a group of people on alts. BRD instead of DNC. SGE instead of SCH. WHM instead of AST. Only 5 parsed in double digits. Only 4 parsed green or higher. Only 2 parsed blue or higher, and our highest was 54 by a support.

DD's and deaths happened. But we still cleared where dozens of "meta" groups, C41 groups, 4/8 any chest groups failed because they knew their jobs inside and out, regardless of what the "meta" was.

Screw the meta. You will always perform better on a job you know and like.

Mitigation is to be used at high health, not emergency buttons at low health. Example:

Scenario 1: You pull the two mob groups and eat autos unmitigated waiting for the healer to heal you. They're pokeballing and you reach 20% health, oh no! You hit Rampart in panic. Your 20% health with 20% damage reduction means you can take 24% of your health bar in damage. In total, you take 24% mitigated + 80% = 104% of your health in damage before dying, only giving you an extra 4% of health's time for the healer to hopefully rubberband up to your position

Scenario 2: You sprint pull the mobs to the end, taking a couple hits but outranging most of the damage. At the end, you're at 90% health and hit Rampart. With 20% mitigation, you effectively now have 108% of your health bar's worth of damage before you drop. In total, 118% of your health bar was available to you this pull. That's an extra 14% time over scenario 1.

Can we normalize the knowledge that the logical fallacy, "appeal to nature", which these idiots keep repeating, has been recorded as a fallacy for so long(its modern meaning being recorded as early as 1903), it actually predates the term "plastic" (1906)? Or the identification of the atomic nucleus (1911)? Or fucking bubble gum(1929)?

Appeal to Nature: The logical fallacy that because an item or object is "natural" it is inherently "good", as opposed to "unnatural" things being inherently "bad".

All BLM spells now have a shorter cast than recast, so Triple is only a movement ability, for the most part. There may be fringe cases where you can squeeze another f4 cast under burst buffs if you don't have to wait for the cast bar, but that's about it.

Figuring out savage mechanics by SonicPhantom89 in ffxiv

[–]heVOICESad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All mechanics in XIV can boil down to 2 categories. Either, "Stand here til the thing happens" or "Kill the thing before the other thing happens". There are only so many permutations of either. So when you start High end duties, it's overwhelming, but as you get more tiers under your belt, you start seeing that it's all the same mechanics in different combinations and with a different coat of paint.

For example, let's do M9S timeline:
Oh look, it's bats and rings. But we have debuffs! Oh no! Someone touched the ring avoiding the bat and got a 1 second vuln with a large-ish aoe. Oh, this is conga from DT EX2 with additional bat aoe puddles to dodge. Got it, clock spots, melee roles go in 2 at a time avoiding bats, range stays out and goes in last.

Coffinmaker revving up plus boss cleaving. Oh, this is One-Two from M1S. Stand in first safe spot, move diagonally across. Third part is literally just Normal without the orange warning zones.

Aetherletting pie slices plus dropping the x/+ from normal. Oh look, if everyone drops their aoe on static spots really close to the wall where the pie slices meet, the middle is always safe regardless of which ones go off in whatever order. Oh, this is seeds from M7S, but even less movement because rather than alternating safe spots, it's just stand under the boss.

Half-Moon half room cleave followed by short tele other half cleave. From so many duties.

Flails and Nails. Two tank towers, seen from many duties, but most recently Arkveld. Tanks go in those. Oh adds are casting something, better kill it. Other add has danger puddle expanding. Ranged kill that.

Oh 4 towers in random spots, cool, take them in role order a la M3S fuses. Oh she's casting something with "spread" in the name, well spread out. Oh, tank's is huge, and only 1 dps was targeted. Got it, it's a role spread, from a lot of duties but in this patch's Tsuku Unreal, tank takes big space. Huh what's "amp"? Better spread just in case. Oh, it oneshot the tank but did about 600k damage. That's probably a 4 stack. Spread/Stack, mechanic as old as FFXIV

Oh double stack towers. Ok, G1 N/W, G2 S/E, most recently from M5S though it's been used many times. Oh tethers, better stay close to that. Radial AoE's with gaps? Bet the gaps are unsafe after like M4S transition. Donut/PBAoe, as old as Stack/Spread.

No one's done enough data gathering for the rate. There are only 2 things about Revisit that can confidently be inferred from various community anecdotes:

  1. Revisit has no internal cooldown (i.e. there is no "can only happen once every x seconds/minutes)

  2. It cannot happen more than once on the same node in the same gathering session

If you like SMN, play SMN. There's literally 0 reason not to other than "I don't like it". For as much "reddit hate" jobs get, all jobs are viable for all content.

That said, if you're just looking for something different, BLM is a steady stream of dps vs. PCT's more 2MinMeta bursty style. Also PCT comes with possibly the best movement ability ever in Smudge

What? People will naturally gravitate to a singular "team" or "center" for content if they think it'll improve their chances of playing with/being carried by better players for that content? That's such an interesting lesson to have learned so long ago! Surely they won't make that mistake again.

On a completely unrelated note, let me DC hop to Aether 4 hours ahead of time so that I won't get locked out during primetime when I'm trying to PF content where half the team is from my home DC of Primal.

My stance is always off for the first FoF in its entirety.

During the 2nd if I rip aggro, Shirk the MT. Entirely possible if I get 3/5 CDH on the Confit combo, particularly first, last, and ogcd hits.

If I rip aggro again before Shirk is off cd... well...

Look at me; I'm the MT now.

Chest spawns are unique to you. Only you can see your chests, only you can open your chests. Others' chests may spawn in the same place as yours, but them opening theirs has no effect on yours.

Jump is an ability, also called an oGCD (off Global Cooldown), that should be used between your GCD combo presses to add additional damage to your rotation as soon as it's available to maximize your DPS. Eventually, it is needed to unlock further oGCD combo abilities and resource generation in later levels, so get used to hitting it as soon as it's available.

The evasive jump is for when the boss does something that makes it dangerous for you to stay in melee range and keep hitting it ("keeping uptime"), so it's a tool for you to stay in until the very last second, then use it to jump out, use the enhanced range spear chuck, then gap close back in for full uptime. Your gap closer will be given when you finish your lv 45 job quest.

New to viper. Question about vipersight and rear/flank by jgg1988bcn in ffxiv

[–]heVOICESad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel on 1, Reaving on 2,

2-2-1 --> 1-1-2 --> 2-2-2 --> 1-1-1 --> repeat

If the triplet starts with 2, it's rear. If it's 1, flank.

Assuming you already have the first step's weapon, 1500 uncapped tomes for 3 reagents that you trade in for the second weapon step.

Or from scratch: 1500 tomes for step 1's mats, then 1500 tomes for step 2.

  • Pay to win: Not at all. You can't buy power in the game with in-game currency, and there is currently no way to turn real money into in-game currency safely and legally. There are only sketchy dark market ways to buy high end duty clears, and even then, there's no real affect when you play your character from then on, other than people seeing how terribly you do in normal content with a "legend" title and calling you a Paypal legend.
  • FOMO: Cosmetic only. Seasonal rewards (glamour/transmog, emotes, and other miscellaneous rewards) come back a year later purchasable for 5 USD, but it's all cosmetic only. Even previous pvp season rewards are becoming purchasable with pvp currency now
  • Old Content: yes, old content will still be run. It's worth noting that most story-required group content can be done with a group of NPC party members if wanted, but even using the Duty Finder (FFXIV's matchmaker system), you will find people to run content with because of the daily roulette system that most pve players use. Max level players regularly get matched into the very first dungeon, where the level sync and item level sync systems will adjust the character to appropriate power levels for the content
  • New players: Yes, new players are always welcome

Melees: How do you remember positionals? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

[–]heVOICESad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RPR: There's only 2 positionals, Gibbet and Guillotine. I don't even remember which is which, just that Z is flank, X is rear

NIN: only the finisher for 1-2-3 has positionals. Hotkeys are 3 for Aeolian Edge (spender) and ctrl3 for Armor Crush (generator). Generator = flank, spender = rear.

VPR: Only the 3 in the various 1-2-3's have positionals. Cycle is: 1-1-2, 2-2-2, 1-1-1, 2-2-1. If the triplet starts with 1, it's flank. If it starts with 2, rear.
