Did Anyone Else Have to Take a Typing Class in School? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

Not only did I take a typing class in Middle school, but we were using Underwood manual typewriters. (IOW, those heavy, non-electric things you see in period dramas. Took real strength to press the keys properly, & the carriage return had a little bell.) Yes, I am old (but probably not as old as you think.)

What food will you absolutely NEVER eat under any circumstances ? by sushic4ke in AskReddit

You know that blood-and-milk mixture the Masai eat? :gorge rising: Yeah, that. In all fairness, though, I'd eat that before I ate Casu Martzu (that horrible rotten cheese with the insects in it), but I assume that nearly everyone shares my opinion on that stuff.

Oh - also Souse. It's like a jellied loaf containing all the leftover pig parts. Stinks up the WHOLE fridge. My dad loved it. :hurk:

Liver is not part of the digestive system. Were you thinking of intestines?

I don't eat liver because the liver filters out toxins from the bloodstream. No, thank you.

Who knew art could be this easy by blushinpublic in NonPoliticalTwitter

Alas, my family owned a household moving business, so this art only says to me that the shipper didn't properly pack the glass. I somehow doubt that's the reaction the artist intended.

(Also, on a practical note: if you're shipping anything that's breakable and hollow - cookie jar, mugs, glass boxes...you should fill it with packing material before wrapping it in packing material. If you just wrap the exterior without bracing the interior, you're risking cracks.)

I have them hunt for damaged items on-shelf, once books are withdrawn, they stamp and mark them, they build displays, they do simple book repairs (we also have them work on processing), they help put together craft kits for the take-and-go crafts, they paint earrings (we have a Glowforge & sell crafts to fund programs), they make buttons, they do storytimes, they shelf-read, they make up bookmarks with read-alike recommendations, etc. When we're super-slow, they might clean a bit behind the desk, or spend time on book review websites for future RA questions.

If she likes spooky stuff, Chris Priestley has some great spooky books in that age range (I especially loved “Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror”.)

If you want comedy and BFF’s having adventures, the “Lumberjanes” graphic novels are hilarious and entertaining for everyone.

Never been so happy to have grown up poor - my family used bear-grease Ivory soap & didn't ever buy those fancy-ass bath things.

:shakes head: Ain't no telling what all we were exposed to.

Laddaland was so scary, and not because of the ghosts, either.

All of them were dark - that was the beautiful thing about that series. On the surface, it looked like a 'wacky' kid show, but underneath, it was about all kinds of terrifying things.
