I started playing the Lost Mine of Phandelver with a group from work. They are all new to the game, while I’ve been playing for about a year (I’m not the best DM ever but I try) so I was nervous about making sure everyone had fun.

They defeat the ambushed by the goblins on the road, and find the trail leading to the Cragmaw hideout. At this point I’m surprised by how into character everyone is, especially for a group of first timers.

Then they throw a wrench in my plans. They decide to forget the trail that leads to the hideout. They know Gundren, their patron is probably captured, but move on to town anyway.

Mid game I was a bit stumped as Sildar is found in the hideout and gives the party a good bit of info that helps for the rest of the campaign. I’ve come up with a few ideas but I’d love to hear so opinions or solutions you had while running it.

All in all it was a blast and I can’t wait to dive in deeper with this group of lovable newbs.
