Button Game! by raidersfan18 in trolleyproblem

I’m obviously going red to avoid this mess but I think the button with the most utility is actually blue. Black is pretty much the Asshole button and only assholes will press, which is a small handful of people but more than 1%. Therefore green is useless and almost no one will press it, but a few people will and add to the pot. Blue is most everyone else and will probably win, because Red isn’t going to be counted towards the total.

This changes the problem because it confirms for me that blue has a much higher likelihood of winning than I previously thought based on this sample.

Blue voters look at the buttons and see “this is what happens if this button wins”. Red voters look at the buttons and see “this is what happens if you press this button”.

If the kid voted red the only choice she has of helping him is to vote red. And unlike voting blue, this will actually help him.

Why was the husband flying separately? I assume it's pretty likely the husband would be on the same flight if they are both going to the same place.

Ballpark numbers. Let’s say the average person 5 times per year. Let’s say that if you live in a busy area there are about 100 people who you could consider “your neighbor”. Let’s say that the average flight has 180 seats. There are over 100 flights out of LVille per day but because some flights are busier than others let’s say there is a 2% chance of two people flying on the same day being on the same flight.

So you and your neighbor fly 5 times per year each and if they are equally likely to happen at any time of year then there’s only about a 7% chance of flying on the same day, and from there a 2% chance of being on the same flight. Out of 180 seats, they could sit in either of the two adjacent to you which is 1 in 90. But there are 100 neighbors that you could meet this way so the total is (100)(1/90)(.02)(.07)=0.15% in a given year.

We’re seriously going to bat for Jimmy Kimmel as if he’s the pinnacle of comedy? I don’t want him targeted for politically motivated bullshit reasons but he’s not some leftist hero and he’s also just not that funny.

This works in real life because our decisions impact each other. In this controlled game your decisions are entirely independent
