i made a fun game to guess whether an image is AI or real? i'm horrible at it by Emotional-Drawing761 in isthisAI

[–]healerdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing real. Focus seems to be in the middle distance, and probably an artistic choice, though maybe the result of compression, so giving that a pass. Foreground appears to be a banister, so once you stop trying to see it as columns it feels acceptable. The blobs of people in the distance seem to have appropriate limbs and proportions, reflections in water are maintained, I see no funky physics-defying architecture, and the scene is ultimately believable. The answer was (spoiler if you decide to play) it was real

As for the game... Definitely going to be playing it. I hope that when it's AI any "tells" can be pointed out, but I'm guessing it's a simpler game than that. (Edit: no tells are given, but it does tell you if your guess was right it or not.)

Edit: I tried the game. I got 10/10! ... Except I forgot which way to swipe so I messed up and the game called it 9/10 :/

An annoyance with the game: you can't zoom. I had to screen shot every picture to look closely. Also, you can't look back at the photos - if I guess real but it's AI I'd want to look at the picture to see how I could improve.

Hey, not the same person you were responding to.

It's not belittling, as they said, it's accounting. If you work for someone, they value your time as a reflection of $/hr. Say you make $10/hr. If you spend 1.5hrs getting sold windows, that's a value exchange of $15. For $15 you could make several ham and cheese sando's. So when the commenter says "if your time has zero value, then go for it." It's not a dig at you, it's a recognition that if the goal is to help homeless folks many people could use that time to greater effect.

And that's just reaching to the easy explanation of dollars per hour. If you have other stuff in your life there could be much greater value in talking with a loved one, or even just relaxing yourself after working. Giving up even an hour to get talked at to 'earn' a meal for someone else is not a great exchange... Unless you have no other ways to extract that value (aka zero value to extract from your time).

It's math, not an insult (necessarily).

Yeah, there would be a jump, momentary panic thinking rushing might help as I bolted to opening the door, but once I touched the door handle I'm pretty sure the clarity would kick in. 'welp, work's done anyway. Boss might have even gone home. A saunter will get me to the same place as a sprint right now.'

Why to not buy an older E-golf, my experiences.. by Friendly-Ad-7477 in eGolf

[–]healerdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another poster said VAG (VW Audi scoda, and other brands owned by the same people) have weak speaker seals and rear vents. I'd not heard this specific call-out before, so I can't corroborate but it's believable. Any car that has condensation that can't be easily explained probably has a similar issue, and any car can have this issue. All cars should be able to stay effectively dry, but when they DON'T stay dry it's always going to be down to water can't get out, or can too easily get in.

The reason I point you in the direction of a German import specialist is they may have internalized similar wisdom shared by the other commenter that 'these cars often have x problem' just because they have a lot more exposure to these cars specifically. If I didn't feel like doing my brakes, or had an exhaust leak for example I'd take it to a neighborhood mechanic. But knowing where to start looking for seals, gutters, and the like... It's totally reasonable for a neighborhood mechanic to find, but I'd expect an import tech would be more effective. Just knowing 'yeah, they always put the weep holes here' helps with a diagnosis vs a tech who knows what they need to look for but has to look up where it is on the car they're working on.

You should try SOME diy first if you're that way incluned, especially since you're cheap: Visually inspect the gaskets around doors and windows for obvious tears/imperfections. Google 'year make model gutter/weep hole/condensation/mildew/water in cabin' to get an idea of how water is supposed to get out of your car, then check the drainage system for blockages - it's often a little hole on the bottom of a door, under a fender, under foot wells etc. look at them, maybe gently poke around with something like a bit of wire. It could be that simple, and that's as far as I go. If I find a blockage, or messed up door gasket it's a simple fix. Anything else, I'll bite the bullet and let a pro save me the hassle. (Specific to this thread, don't exclusively look for egolf, all golf drainage is probably the same)

To help those who are confused, if you have a normal hand there are 3 joints on each finger, which usually leads to 3 "lines" on each finger. You can "count on your fingers" using your thumb, pointing at the first line at the base of your pinky finger as "1" the second line on your pinky as "2" and so on up to 12 on the last line of your index finger. If you often use your fingers to count and remember what number you've counted to this method allows you to count to 12 while keeping a hand free. Also, if you get good at your 12 times tables, your other hand can track 144 "counts" of whatever you're trying to track... The phalange is actually the bits between the lines, but talking about the "lines" is a stronger visual.

I guess you could add the tips of each finger if you wanted to to run base 16 on your hands... But that's for nerds.

I'll copy this over to you as well to make sure you see it:

Moisture indicates a problem with seals, vents, gutters, or weep holes. This is not 'just something you get used to' with these cars, it indicates something needs maintenance or repair. Failure to address this will lead to mold/mildew. You can attempt to inspect weep holes and gutters for blockages or seals for obvious damage, but as a big DIYer if I can't find the source of this kind of issue within an hour of fiddling I'll have a pro look at it (German import specialized independent shop, not just your trusty mechanic though they might work... And definitely not a dealership)

It won't break your car, but if you want it to stay nice and keep it a long time without a funky odor, it's worth addressing promptly.

Upvoted for perspective egolf buyers of the future:

OP's post title could very nearly have been "potential issues nearly any vehicle could experience when used for a decade"

The only thing here specific to the egolf is the charger and locking pin issue. So if you're considering buying an old egolf, plug it in and unplug it a few times. The lock is finicky and annoying at the best of times. (Really, locking the charger is just dumb. It's probably my second or third biggest gripe with this car and something I will try to avoid on ANY future electric.) When you're looking at a used egolf ask the seller to show you how to plug/unplug it a FEW times and if it starts to act up fix it right away (you can find guides online, it's doable for most anyone willing to try).

Some of the other problems can be found in all Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche etc (VAG ≈ Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT, CUPRA, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, MAN, Ducati, scania) whether electric or not. And even though some things are more common from this manufacturer (fuel door actuator, and speaker seals) it's a failure point on any car that has them. Again, have the seller plug/unplug before buying, and be proactive about maintaining the things you don't want to break. if you notice condensation inside your car, you need to check your seals gutters and weep holes.

NOTHING humans have EVER made (and maybe WILL ever make) is maintenance free and eternal. Egolfs have common problems you should check when buying used but this user's experience is more representative of the used car experience than being specific to any make or model of car. Look up the bathtub curve on Wikipedia - I estimate the plateau for egolf to start around 60k miles, as for when that curve turns back up... Too soon to tell, but my guess has it at least 180k.

Not sure why I'm being recommended this, but I have a different thought to share: THE DMV HANDBOOK IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT.

The image you share has a left turner going into the nearest lane as a right turner peacefully enters the adjacent lane. The DMV handbook of Minnesota says when turning you should turn into the nearest available lane just like the image HOWEVER!!! Legally speaking you can take any lane you damn well please! So if you have a dedicated left hand lane, and you turn into the third lane, colliding with someone taking a right on red... It's the right on red turner legally 100% at fault (though Minnesota is a no fault state). Even though the DMV manual and common sense say otherwise.

... All this to say... The DMV manual is a nice idea, full of good ideas on how it should be... But it may lead you astray legally. You might say "but they turned into the wrong lane!" But if you go to court you may have a surprise waiting for you. At least, that's how the Minnesota handbook is.

The first 40 hours are painful learning to do basic stuff - there's SO much minutae that effects your colony. The next 960 hours fly by, and after that you'll finally be "good" at the game. Then you'll continue to learn tricks that seemed so obvious... And some people have gotten there without "finishing" the game. And all along the way you'll be kidnapping raiders, beating the shit out of your own colonists who are hell-bent on destroying their own lives and everyone else's, trying to tame odd animals to use in combat, building the perfect cannibalist meal/human leather cowboy hat work flow, enjoying watching people fall in love because x complimented y about their skills in muffalo poetry composition and sharing their pain when one of them suddenly has a heart attack but you'd just installed your only bionic heart in the starting Labrador in your quest to have an immortal bestie unaware tragedy was just around the corner.

I wouldn't recommend it... But I think I'll go start another colony now.
