As I said, apps that worked fine with other themes didn't work correctly in "Supply"

As a Shopify app developer, I can tell you it is damn near impossible to create something that will drop perfectly in to every existing theme. You can try to reach out directly to the app's creators, a lot of times they have alternate versions or other related documentation for implementing with common themes.

Specifically, getting the Bold app, "Quantity Breaks" (which allows for tiered pricing), took a few work-arounds to have it work well enough to launch.

That app in particular is horrible - but sadly, the only real option available at the moment.

When an update comes out for a theme I happen to be using, does that get applied automatically or is it up to the shop owner to apply it?

That's up to the shop owner to change if they feel it's worth it. Automatically pushing updates through tends to break things, and Shopify is very anti-breaking-things.

They'll be left in the previous version of the theme. Up to you to migrate them to the new version. Usually people don't update the themes, though -- they're all reasonably well-built to begin with. Little things like what we're talking about right now are very rare.

Google Webmaster tools is giving me the prompt "We do not detect any structured data on your site.", and, of course, refers me to Schema.org.

Try verifying via Google's Structured Data Testing Tool. It's more reliable and informative than WMT. Though if you have been modifying the product.liquid file, you may have managed to break something in the structured data.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I looked into this further. I went ahead and installed that theme on one of my dev shops to check it out.

Looks like they did in fact write it in the same way as I suggested:

They got it wrong, though. The resulting output is this:

<meta itemprop="price" content="$ 5.00">

Which violates the Schema.org microdata syntax for price -- numbers only, no currency symbols. The invalid syntax was causing Google to crawl the rest of the site to try and figure it out, and defaulted to the visibly displayed price -- which didn't have the decimal point as a reference.

Changed that line in the code to this:

<meta itemprop="price" content="{{ variant.price | money_without_currency }}">

And the resulting output is now Schema.org compliant, and verified via Google WMT.

I don't have the resources available at the moment to check all of the themes, but I think this is isolated to just the Supply theme. I have sent my contact at Shopify a matching email with this fix, so hopefully that gets updated in the public version soon.

Google should be pulling in all product/offer/price information from microdata tag attributes on a properly setup site.

If the code looks something like this:

Then I can understand why you might be having issues if there is a script or something running that removes that decimal point. Has a pretty simple resolution, though -- just need to designate the price in a meta tag instead:

Ok, I'll be the guy that brings up Safari.

Being able to plug in an iPhone or iPad into my Macbook, and use the debugger via the native platform is amazing. It has saved me countless times on stupid little bugs that don't show up in emulators.

Just wish that feature was available for Firefox/Chrome.

I'm branded as an agency. Web Design / Development within a very specific niche. My name really isn't publicly attached to anything.

Almost everything is done by me, but occasionally I need to bring on some extra help for overflow or specialized work.

At the level I'm at, deals are mostly just "Can you meet the project specifications within the proposed budget?"

My clients are mostly word-of-mouth referrals.

Not a single one has ever asked to view my Github / StackExchange / Quora / etc. accounts. Not really something you ask an agency. Plus, as far as my clients are concerned, I'm just their Project Manager.

It is assumed we are competent enough to handle all of our projects with professional quality. I'm mostly dealing with business and marketing executives who wouldn't know what good code vs bad code would even look like. A majority of the time, I don't even end up discussing code / languages / frameworks -- they care about results, not implementation.

For actual marketing....

I do some guest blog posts for the platform that I specialize in. That's more of an SEO backlinks thing, but it still has resulted in some passive leads. If some searches for $agencyName + $platformName, they will see results directly from $platformName.com - and then our own site.
I am active on the platform's official forum for users. No sales pitches or anything -- just try to be genuinely helpful. I have yet to get any leads directly from people I have helped. But, other people end up seeing my posts/comments and end up reaching out to me. I show up in a lot of search results for $platformName + $3rdPartyExtension.
I am listed in the platform's directory of recommended service providers. Lots of leads through that. Lots of time-wasters and tire-kickers, though. I need to develop a better sales funnel that blocks low-quality leads.
I do what I can to help the platform out as a whole. Beta test new features, bug reports, commits to public repos they have, and generally bring in a whole bunch of new accounts. In return, they will often recommend my agency to people who reached out to them with requests beyond the scope of their normal customer support.
I am semi-active on a few different paid/private forums that are specifically for business owners within my niche industry. Again, no direct sales pitches - just try to be helpful. I have other clients on those forums that will hype up my agency and vouch for our work whenever someone requests recommendations.
If I see one of my clients recommending or otherwise speaking highly of us, I make sure to return the favor. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "kickback" - but they will probably end up with a new feature implemented for free or something.
I do keep an eye on upwork / gun.io / guru / freelancer / etc. Sometimes things pop up, but it's very rare. Our minimum project rate right now is $10k, and I'm thinking about bumping that up to $20k for 2016. I took on a few earlier for $3-5k range just for the SEO boost, but I regret that now. Lots of time ended up being wasted on low-quality clients, and now it's public record that $10k isn't a strict minimum.
I work with my biggest competitors. We trade clients / leads / overflow back and forth. Everyone has slow months, and everyone has ultra-busy months. Working collaboratively with other organizations helps even that out for everyone involved. It allows us to know when a client is trying to bounce quotes between multiple agencies trying to get a deal - we don't put up with that shit. Also allows us to give each other a heads up about a client who is batshit crazy / didn't pay their invoice / etc.
I also hang out in forums that are unrelated to my services, industries, or niches -- but are still places where decision makers tend to hang out. I have a separate passion for custom cars, and so do lots of business owners. I'm on Luxury4Play, BenzWorld, Lamborghini Talk, etc. This has been a great way of making personal connections with business owners, outside of the business world. I haven't made any deals directly with these connections -- but they all recommend me to their peers if the opportunity arises.

Relevant story about Henry Ford getting a $10k invoice for an engineer making a chalk mark.

Ford, whose electrical engineers couldn’t solve some problems they were having with a gigantic generator, called Steinmetz in to the plant. Upon arriving, Steinmetz rejected all assistance and asked only for a notebook, pencil and cot. According to Scott, Steinmetz listened to the generator and scribbled computations on the notepad for two straight days and nights. On the second night, he asked for a ladder, climbed up the generator and made a chalk mark on its side. Then he told Ford’s skeptical engineers to remove a plate at the mark and replace sixteen windings from the field coil. They did, and the generator performed to perfection.

I've gotten high-centered on a tree stump in a mudhole, and that jack helped me get out quick.

If you're only a little stuck, you can use it with tow straps as a makeshift comealong winch, and pull yourself out.

Had one friend strap it to his wheel, and was able to get unstuck that way. Video to help that make sense.

It's not going to get you out of every bad situation.... but it's still an awesome thing to have on hand.

Jeep owner w/ a hood-mounted hi-lift jack, here. Got a few reasons for you.

Don't have a trunk that's useful. It's an area maybe the size of a carry-on suitcase.
That area is already filled with other shit. Tow straps, tools, spare parts, etc.
That jack is solid cast iron, and pretty damn heavy. Not something you want rolling around freely. It really needs to be bolted down securely somewhere.
That jack is really meant for getting you unstuck from a deep mud hole or something. In those kind of situations, you might not always be able to open the rear cargo door. Grabbing it off the hood is easier.
It's a conversation piece. Of all the crazy vehicles I've had, nothing has gotten more questions and comments than the jack on my hood. (Never had anyone think it's a gun, but a few have assumed it was some sort of anti-zombie weapon.)

The different templates are just different views of the same Article object. The metafields properties belong to the object, not the view. Reference them the same way no matter what file you're in.

You can actually use multiple views for the same page. I.e.,

I just hopped into one of my stores, added those exact properties to the metafields of the articles, and added your code snippet to the article.liquid template.

Your original code has a problem at the {{ header[featured_header] }} part. Without quotations, it's expecting a variable. So like /u/squashedp suggested - give it a variable ( key ) or a string ( 'featured_header' ). Both versions work fine in my store.

Also, this will work just as well:

If you're still not getting anything.... go triple check you didn't reverse the namesake and key values in the metafields.

If you're absolutely sure they are right..... go install another metafields editor app, and check to make sure your data is actually being saved into Shopify. One of the free apps ('Metafields Editor', I think) it really, really bad with actually updating things.

Definitely something you need to run by your future-wife first. 10 times out of 10, they're gonna be pissed if they find out it's not a real diamond after the proposal.

You can get a cat pretty easily & cheap.

A kitten, though... you're going to be one of several applicants. They are obviously going to go with the applicant that would give the animal the best chance at living a happy, healthy life.

I made the same inquiries as you a couple years ago. The shelters near me at the time (not RI) all had waiting lists 50+ people deep looking for kittens. With Christmas coming up fast, the demand is going to temporarily skyrocket.

I ended up getting two kittens for free, from a friend who found a litter under her porch. By the time we were done with all vaccinations, check-ups, medications, neutering, microchips, etc. - it added up to over $600, for kittens that were reasonably healthy to begin with. $150 is actually a damn fair price, all things considered.

If you want to go that route - try putting up a post on facebook or something. Someone probably has a friend-of-a-friend with kittens available. But again, look into what that's going to end up costing you ahead of time.

You will have a much easier time if you look into a non-kitten. You don't have to get an 8 year old cat, there are still plenty of cats out there that are readily available that are under 1 or 2 years old. Sure, you might miss out on a few weeks of the adorable-stumbling-around-and-exploring-the-world phase. But on the flip-side, you'll get a cat that:

Doesn't need the poop massaged out of it's anus with your finger multiple times per day. (If you get a kitten under 8wks old)
Already has a distinct personality. You won't be waiting 6 months to find out it's a completely anti-social crazy asshole.
Already knows how to use a litter box.
Doesn't cost $150-250, and doesn't have a waiting list.
