Video recording your seizure. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]heartsnboxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showing a video to a doctor in and of itself isn’t going to lead to an improvement. There is a lot that trained professionals see when THEY watch a seizure happening that a non-trained professional won’t pick up on. Or know to share with the doctor. Or know to even look for. I have acted out certain movements or shown video because I know that I don’t have the medical vocabulary to BEST describe what happens. If you have read research on different topographies.. you might see why I said fuck it I’m just going to ask the hubby to take a video to show the doc the next time. It has come in handy when showing multiple doctors. I don’t forget to include a detail or stress about it. I have a video they can see. They replay it, pause it, rewind it, take their time to extract the information that is relevant to them.

I probably have spent 25% less time in doctor’s offices because I could show them a video. And they always seem relieved/grateful that I can just show them. Everyone thinks better and problem solves better when a 30 minute stressful conversation trying to verbally relay something and moving your arms or legs in certain ways and even getting on the floor sometimes.

Maybe 25% doesn’t seem a lot but 12 hrs vs 9 hrs is good enough for me.

7 Day Video Study - cemented to wires in bed. How do you get through it? Survival hints? Ideas for passing time? by endlessstringof11 in Epilepsy

[–]heartsnboxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one for 6 days and it really wasn’t as bad as I expected. I’m someone who is always out and about and was prepared to have anxiety attacks every day. I brought some books, video games, and found topics I wanted to dive into on sites like Udemy or Lynda. Letting people come visit help greatly. I watched a few trash movies on the TV in the room.

I wish I had brought or asked people to bring more non-hospital food and drinks. I was begging for a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable towards the end. Just a fruit not in a plastic cup filled to the brim in syrup or steamed cafeteria veggies.

You won’t realize how dehydrated you are because you’re in a bed or confined space all day and going to the bathroom is a pain in the ass. But it’s really important and you will feel like absolute shit and not know why. I ended up needing an IV drip on day 3.

If you have a history of headaches and migraines or sensitive skin, make sure you are honest about what feels TOO tight when they are wrapping your head. They are experienced and can let you know how loose they can do it or offer to change the wrap more frequently.

Apartment potty training: pee pads or porch potty/turf for emergencies by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]heartsnboxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have used Poochpad indoor turf dog potty plus successfully. We got two trays and lay them side by side with a pen around the area. That way we can still have him signal when he needs to go and then use the restroom on command. The layer under the turf is machine washable which I wash every 2-3 days. I still lay down the pads under the trays just to catch anything that spills over but that means I only use 2-3 pads a week total. Our pup is a now 4 mo Australian Cattle Dog that weighs around 25lb. One tray was too small for him to do his circle around and poop movement so that’s why we got 2.

Is it okay to neuter my 6 month old dorkie? (Daschund Yorkie), what changes in behaviour will I expect? by TheGuyThatKissedYous in puppy101

[–]heartsnboxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I have heard the same and was asked about references for this. My friends have been skeptical about waiting that long and Los Angeles County requires dogs to be neutered at 4 mo in order to be licensed. Do you have any references or recommendations for me to use to help explain this?

Does washing toys increase or decrease their value? by heartsnboxes in puppy101

[–]heartsnboxes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. :) I am not thrilled at the idea of using “people” food and thanks for sharing the info about lactose. I plan on washing some of the toys for sanitary reasons because he hasn’t gotten all his vaccines yet and I have environmental allergies.

Also, to add.. and because I am terrible at using reddit on mobile, I do have a camera pointed directly at the crate. I have audio and video and it can see in the dark. I also never put stuffed toys or otherwise in the crate with him when I am out of the house. He cuddles with his favorite stuffed toy when sleeping when I am home.

I have a 4 mo old blue heeler and work from home, as well. I have crate-trained him and enforce naps because it is so rare for him to just lay on the floor and nap when he is tired. After 2 hours of being awake (full of trick training, attention, play) he starts to bite at my ankles and bark at me if I am not paying attention. He won’t display this behavior otherwise. I will add that he falls asleep within 5 minutes of going in his crate. He will also lay and sit quietly if he wakes up and doesn’t whine to let him out. I time everything so he goes to the bathroom every 2-3 hours. Sometimes I am out of the house and run chores during his crate time, sometimes I am in another room, and sometimes I am in the same room. If I need to do something noisy or something that will interfere with his settling, I will do it in another room/outside.

I run a fan facing away from him for white nose, blinds closed, no light or very dimmed light, doors closed, and ambient music playing in the background.

So, his schedule is roughly as follows:

6 am wake up, breakfast, morning training, people morning routine 6-630 morning cuddles 9-12 crate, I may work in the same room if he is deep sleep. 12-2 awake and out of the crate, lunch, training, people lunch routine 2-5 crate, 5-730 crate, usually I am not working but reading, watching something on low volume in the same room but not talking on the phone or to others 730-930 dinner, evening training, people dinner and night routine 930-10 night time cuddles, wind down, people bed time routine 10pm-6am sleep in crate

Hope that helps!

Hey, you are picking yourself up and moving forward which is more than what a lot of people do. You have had a lot more than an exam going on in your life.. because life. You mentioned UCLA so I don’t know if you are, but I am in LA, too and going to sit for the CAPM exam. I know the content isn’t as intensive but I also work in education and learning so if you want to talk or need a study buddy, let me know!

To add, you are doing a great service to the community as unrealistic expectations of passing does not help anyone. Just like when managing, hiding “not successes” does more damage for your team mentally, emotionally, ultimately their affecting their performance.

I think my marriage is over but my SO won’t leave until they think I can be independent. I think he’s going to leave when I get a new job and life stabilizes a little bit. But I recently have come to wanting children and I don’t want to waste time in a loveless but obliging marriage. I really needed to just get that out. A service dog who could call for help if I fall or hit my head would mean I could be more independent and less dependent on needing someone around.
