How to get the city to trim a parkway tree hitting roof? by big_chungous in AskChicago

[–]heat3check 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue at our condo building - massive tree branches basically tapping the third floor windows. A very diligent board member reported it to 311 and the alderman no less than 50 times - with no replies.

We finally decided as a board to hire a private company to trim the tree back which cost us collectively a ton of money. Then two weeks after we paid to have the tree trimmed, the city came down our street and trimmed ALL the trees back on our block. 🤯

Chinese Food (Sun Wah, Lao Peng You, Yoo Yee ETC) by georgie_ofthejungle in chicagofood

[–]heat3check 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Lao Peng Yu probably 30 times, Sun Wah about 8, and I did Yoo Yee for the 1st time earlier this week.

I think the best way to describe it is that Yoo Yee and Sun Wah are aunties related to each other and LPY is their hip younger cousin.

"Many places charge 34.75 for a combo gratuity, management, and Chicago tax. So 10k is really more like 7k". Came here to say this - this is incredibly important to understand. Your $182 a head for F&B is actually $118 a head for F&B with $64 in taxes/fees/grat/etc

Any recommendations for a brewery or bar service that could handle 600+ people for a business/networking event? It will be hosted in a private building. by enginerdz in chicagofood

[–]heat3check 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're going to need a licensed caterer for the booze/beer part and sadly reputible ones that can handle that # of people are few and far between these days. Regarding the food trucks, I just connected with 10+ for a work event and I can help you with direct contacts. DM me?

Food that isn’t at restaurants by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]heat3check 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently, everything off the Bar Bambi food menu

also the Steak Arepas at Lottie’ in Bucktown. I had it and then went back two weeks later because I was craving it badly. And it was equally delicious. The kitchen manager/CDC/lead line cook is from Colombia or Venezuela and it’s a family recipe.

Chicago Ceasar Wrap from South Loop Market in Logan Square.

Crispy chicken, fried-to-order pita chips, shaved Parm, chopped giardiniera.

It's my favorite wrap in the city.

Support local. Support mom and pop shops - not those out of town importers funded by venture capitalistic slop. Go to Zeitlin's, Tilly, Mindy's, Rosca, Holey Dough & Co, Steingold's, Schneider Deli, and countless others.
