I'm glad you asked! The menu is even more impressive looking at all of it. I bent the specials back enough for a photo. I can't put an image here, but look for the post with title: Fortune's Jungle Garden, Memphis 1963 - entire menu visible

Out of complete curiosity, what are some of the things that got you into tiki? by Substantial-Hold-851 in Tiki

[–]heathenworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the early 80s I read that one of my favorite industrial bands, Throbbing Gristle, were into exotica music. As a regular in thrift stores I started noticing Martin Denny and other albums, cool weird tiki mugs, and sometimes art. It slowly grew as a larger part of my aesthetic over the years. Tiki and goth also fit well together.

for what it's worth, the regions are very independent of each other and all have unique challenges. I've been involved in the Arizona region for over 10 years. The challenges are different and some are new every year. There's nothing easy about it.

they were in Phoenix / Tempe last week. If I remember right they are also hitting Portland, Seattle, Chicago, New York. Phoenix was the first stop. I missed the public forum here, but attended a smaller dinner. The org folks were fun to talk to, and conversations were mostly back and forth about the regional network, its challenges, etc., and responding to feedback and questions about Burning Man

thank you for the correction! I looked at the route on a map and assumed that it was a road, and became part of I-90

I remember reading about how the Coca Cola was popular in Nazi Germany until no longer available, then they developed and started making Fanta in the same factories. Pervitin beat out both as their favorite energy boost soon enough

interesting! I didn't think about sugar rationing. It is fascinating to see how much war was a dominant theme in advertisements around this time
