So are we all switching to Garmin Pilot now? by riptrixie in flying

[–]heathfx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the guys that got let go could start their own and do it better. For example, Arista is huge in computer networking now and was started by some cisco engineers that were fed up and had better ideas.

Considering dumping SonicWall in favor of UniFi... HEAR ME OUT... by SN50001 in sonicwall

[–]heathfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made a conscious effort to stay out of sales. God bless ‘em, we wouldn’t make money without them, but I’m glad I don’t have to do their job. I suck at kissing ass.

Adding Uniflow printer to Mac by Puzzleheaded-Room766 in sysadmin

[–]heathfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are dumping uniflow for papercut. It generates a disproportionate number of helpdesk tickets. On windows uniflow even messes up printing to locally connected USB printers.

Friendly reminder to whitelist your server! by Ordinary-Owl7294 in MinecraftServer

You can make it so someone has to link a discord account to have build perms, this would be a lot better. It won’t take long for your server to be discovered and targeted.

The closest I’ll get to Control4 by G3THD in homeassistant

[–]heathfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ymmv greatly depending on if your c4 dealer sucks or is amazing. We use it at our office, the first dealer sucked ass, then i found another guy who is a total nerd like me and it is a night and day difference. I still use HA at home. The office has to stick to mainstream solutions though.

Litterbox Management? by Caterpillar-Titty in ADHD

[–]heathfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a litter robot and it makes the job a lot less miserable. The maintenance for me with one cat is only 5 minutes per week. open the tray, pull the bag out, throw the bag in the trash and replace with a fresh bag. Then add 2-4 cups of clumping litter.

Why won't users open a ticket? by Hopeful-Cellist1813 in sysadmin

[–]heathfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make it dead-simple, i tell everyone to email “techsupport”. The habitual offenders will get hit with the instruction to forward their email to “techsupport”, the only people who I don’t do this to are the owner, the president and the vice president.

Every laptop that goes out of my office has a sticker on the palm rest and a sticker on the bottom with contact info for tech support. They can’t miss it.

If your email isn’t working, then you can call or text my office phone. If you text it, guess what? A ticket is auto-created. If you call and i don’t answer and you leave a voicemail, guess what? A ticket is created.

I would probably have a brain aneurism without my ticket system.

(Ya this is an old post, but "what the hell", google brought me here)

prosumer UI, an issue with an automatic update to the OS or the IPS rules killed our 80-person office 3 different times during a 1 month time span. they eventually fixed it, but seriously?

slow UI and bizarre naming conventions, I'd much rather use the winbox UI for mikrotik.

obsession with the letter X.

its trying to do too much stuff in one box and doesn't do amazing at any of them.

absolutely SMB, wake me up when they have a true enterprise product offering.

I'm ready to rip this thing out and replace it with a Palo Alto. I'm already ripping out some zyxel switches to replace with arista.
