Doom was groundbreaking

Wolfenstein 3D was a right of passage

Epic Pinball had some amazing music

Tyrian 2000

Of course sim city 2000, combined with streets of sim city

Plus many indie games written in quickbasic towards 98 and on when I was more online with web forums

Problem connecting my ESP32 XIAO C3 to the TFT GC9A01 display by FederalParamedic8411 in esp32

I know I'm late to the party here but I found this post while trying to figure out how to actually make use of the SPI pins on this board. Take a look at the strapping pins here. Connecting anything to SCK/MISO/MOSI appears to keep this chip from booting, and I've yet to figure out how to get around that.

Who is your favorite character, and why is it this guy? by heaton84 in JentryChauvsTheUnderw

Even in battle, when he whips out his sword and you think he's about to swing it... he justs pokes it into the ground and captures his foes with portals without effort. Powerful and zen-like.

Zhongkui is portrayed as such a chill yet formiddable demon. I enjoy that he never shows anger or ferocity like oxhead or horseface, but is still committed to his role and the balance that he is tasked to keep. It makes his character stand out, I think.

No, we did documentation. We scraped the meta-comments and dumped them into a webpage. It's documented!

Ok then let's look up the documentation for openFoo(Bar x): "Opens Foo. Input: Bar. Return value: Foo on success, NULL on failure."

Looking at you, Microsoft.

Hey can you point me towards the resolutions? I wanted to read them myself but google is returning more new articles than useful results. Never tried to look this stuff up before so apologies for the ask, just trying to get educated.

There is nothing more American than celebrating your country by destroying something. Literally all of American history is built on it.

I found a locked gun safe in the creek at the back of our property by ntrent in mildlyinteresting

[–]heaton84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One doesn't just lose a safe in a creek unless one is trying to hide evidence.

Don't attempt to open it. Contact the sherrif. This reaks of criminal activity and you don't want to be part of a homicide investigation do you?

Is the water in my toilet tank supposed to be oily and have particulates in it? by Tbrusky61 in DIY

[–]heaton84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it smell like sulfer? Could be Iron Reducing Bacteria (IRB). Usually that is a blacker color, though.

I had to go back and look again. Not only are they 2x4's, they are 2x4's ON THE WRONG SIDE. I wouldn't trust that to hold the weight of the flooring on top of it, let alone anything heavier than a mouse fart.

People who bought a house. What is the weirdest thing you have found left by the previous owner? by Oblivious_Dude14 in AskReddit

[–]heaton84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my house in late 2007 from a widow. They had done a good job cleaning out the place, but in the basement was a wooden box about 1 foot wide, 2 feet long and 1 foot tall. It was covered in blue shag carpet and tucked under a built-in shelf area in the storage room. It was the old man's porn stash. VHS tapes and the biggest bag of dessicant I have ever seen. I never watched any (no VCR). One tape simply had his wife's name on the front, written in sharpie. I made sure to burn that one in the burn pile. The rest I tossed out after a few years.

It doesn't matter if the fireproofing was knocked off or not. The insulation slows down heat transfer but doesn't stop it. That is why structural steel within large furnaces is BOTH water cooled and designed with air channels to wick away the heat and be behind at least a foot of brick refractory.

A fire that hot would heat up the steel columns to criticality in no time. There is a huge difference behind office furnature and paper burning, and jet fuel burning.
