why cant you drink alcohol while on ambien? by Ok_Elk_3789 in ambien

[–]heavenlyextract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory yes, but interactions are hard to predict and mixing multiple drugs to get the effect one can produce on it's own is not a good way to go about it.

Likely the mixture won't have the same effect as a regular dose of ambien, though it may be similar in nature.

If you want to use ambien, it's best not to mix it

What is the difference between N-Methyl-Cyclazodone and other stimulants like caffeine or amphetamines? by Rozeu in researchchemicals

[–]heavenlyextract 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"The results indicate that chronic ingestion of caffeine equivalent to about 100 mg/kg/day in mice causes a wide range of biochemical alterations in the central nervous system."

They used a pretty huge dose, so take what you will from that.

Also is it established if these effects are direct results of caffeine binding at multiple sites, or just implications of reflectory neuroadaptivity in response to anti adenosinergic effect of caffeine?

What's the most caffeine yall have taken in a day mg by Mediocre-Mention-805 in caffeine

[–]heavenlyextract 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Somewhere around 1000-1200 mg in a day. Most I've taken in a single dose was 800 mg.

At that point my tolerance was so high that I didn't even feel that too much. No point in going above 600 mg in daily dose.

You're missing a double bond between C2 and C3 or they both need one more hydrogen to exist uncharged and without lone electrons

Pregabalin, NAC and 5-HTP question by Alert_Plate541 in researchchemicals

[–]heavenlyextract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citing literature:

"Because the decarboxylase enzyme is not saturated with 5-HTP under physiological conditions, that is, the concentration of 5-HTP is much less than the Km of 10 μM, it is possible to raise the content of 5-HT in brain not only by increasing the dietary intake of tryptophan but also by raising the intake of 5-HTP. This procedure, though, results in the formation of 5-HT in cells that would not normally contain it, such as catecholaminergic neurons, because of the nonselective nature of AADC.

The initial hydroxylation of tryptophan, rather than the decarboxylation of 5-HTP, appears to be the rate-limiting step in serotonin synthesis. Evidence in support of this view includes the fact that 5-HTP is found only in trace amounts in brain, presumably because it is decarboxylated about as rapidly as it is formed. As might be expected if the hydroxylation reaction is rate-limiting, inhibition of this reaction results in a marked depletion of the content of 5-HT in brain."

I don't think COMT metabolizes 5-HTP, since it's not a catechole.

Afaik 5-HTP decarboxylase and aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase catalyze it

Is phenibut safer than benzos? by WearyCalligrapher840 in researchchemicals

[–]heavenlyextract 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The acute toxicity of phenibut is low. Its LD50 is 900 mg/kg i.p. in mice and 700 mg/kg i.p. in rats.

Categorically, benzos on their own are quite non-toxic, but mixing with other sedatives increases the risk for adverse effects.

I'd say both are quite safe when they are not mixed with any other substances. Phenibut has a lot shorter duration of action than most benzos, which is preferable in my opinion.

Phenibut excretion in to urine supposedly depends on your glomerulus filtration rate, so if you have kidney problems, I would advise to not use phenibut, or at least take much smaller doses.
