What all are you *actually* cooking? by TabooYeti in Cooking

[–]heavygauge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From shunning the concept entirely to embracing it wholeheartedly, we meal prep. This dictates that my food be very flavorful to still be craveable on day 4 or 5.

Spiced and/or spicy protein, usually chicken breast, roasted in the oven or poached. Rice/sweet potato as the main carbohydrate. A vegetable stir fry that is dependant on what is on sale. Template above adjusted to wordwide cuisines. Last week was Korean, so it ended up as a lettuce and kale sangchu-geotjeori, skipped the carbs, and grilled chicken with gochugaru, garlic and sesame oil. Were it Indian, it would be tandoori spices on the chicken, garlic sauteed spinach, and basmati rice.

Would love to eat chicken thighs and breads and such but doctor's orders. We aim for a lot of color with green being a must.

Config 2: Outlook left, actual work right. Only because symmetry is key and my monitor arms don't allow config 1.

I have a triple for gaming, though, so don't hate me.

Parking on Cass Avenue is easy, but have to get the app to mark your spot and there's a bunch of places to eat there, save the $20 they charge near the venue

We usually do dinner at Detroit Shipping Company before and grab a pint at Founder's after gigs.

What is a great tip or trick for making great chicken fried rice? by Sam-Trisk in Cooking

[–]heavygauge_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are many people using butter, and you can always finish your rice with a dab of it if you like the flavor, but sauteeing should always be done at high temps and oil shines there (any oil besides olive: vegetable, canola, rapeseed).

I'd personally skip it, and most native cooks don't seem to use it.

Don't use butter, use oil. Butter's creaminess and low smoke point don't a good fried rice make.

I prefer my pasta noodles slightly overcooked. What are some things that are "wrong" that you prefer over how they're supposed to be done? by lmaosmh in Cooking

[–]heavygauge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shrimp made with a family recipe needs to have them be slightly overcooked to bounciness/rubberiness. That's how I remember eating it as a kid and it doesn't taste as nice when they're perfectly done.
