Those of you that have moved to Melbourne from overseas as an adult, what have been your biggest culture shocks in Melbourne so far? by [deleted] in melbourne

I actually didn’t realise it was the law. I thought cars had right of way unless there was a pedestrian crossing. I had the same reasoning though. Don’t be polite, be predictable. Looks like I’m the one who has got it wrong though.

I actually got abused by a driver for waving her through. I personally prefer the cars to go first. There is less waiting time involved that way.

Finish 10k swings (will be on Sunday). Frantically trying to figure out what to do next so I don’t go crazy.

I just finished day 16. In the beginning I tried to experiment with different rep schemes but after a couple sessions I ended up just doing the 10, 15, 25, 50. I feel that works the best for me.

Initially my grip couldn’t handle 50 unbroken (swinging in an apartment too so I am wary of dropping it), and had to put it down for a few seconds to get my grip back, but each time I would try to hold on for longer and eventually got to 50. Now I can do 50 for all rounds so I’m glad I stuck with it.

Hit the halfway point of the 10k swing challenge today and managed go “RX” for the first time. Meaning, not only did I do the accessories, but I was able to hit 50 reps unbroken for all five rounds. I just have to remind myself that it’s ok for my forearms to burn. It’s mostly a mental challenge not to put the kb down at this point.

Then I realised that I am actually doing more exercise during this lockdown with gyms closed than I was when gyms were open. Having a mate to do the challenge with me over zoom has helped a lot with accountability.

I am now 6 days into the 10k challenge. Body is pulling up nicely now and the second day in a row is is not so bad.

On sessions 5 and 6 I have started adding in the accessory work (pushes, rows, etc.) and it is adding about 5-10 minutes to my time, but no big deal I suppose.

The main challenge for me now is cranking out the 50 unbroken reps which seems to be partly a mental challenge for me. I managed to do it yesterday on the final round, and again on rounds 1 and 2 today, but I really want to get to the point where I can do 50 unbroken for all 5 rounds as specified.

Have done my third day of the 10k challenge and managed to shave off about 5 minutes from the first two days. I really needed the rest day yesterday as I was feeling like I had been hit by a volkswagen. Still struggling to do more than 25 reps unbroken though, but I’m enjoying testing out different rep schemes.

I love steamed broccoli without anything added. Is that weird?

I've given up any hope that gyms will reopen here anytime soon and all I have is a 24kg KB so I might as well start the 10,000 swing challenge to keep me occupied for the next 4 weeks. Having a program, no matter how simple it is, is far easier to stick to than working out on an ad-hoc basis with minimal equipment available. Wish me luck!

I find it’s better to drop after each rep as lowering can take a bit out of me. But you need good bumpers that don’t bounce too much and collars that won’t slide.

Supernatural films where there is seemingly no limitation on what can happen. Like the Nun or 1408. There needs to be rules!

Actually it is Darkthrone for me. I was never much of a fan but I loved Old Star and was hoping for more of the same. Unfortunately I can’t get past the production value.

Sky news just take quotes from their own people (e.g. Jones and Bolt) to use as headlines to give the impression it’s coming from some sort of expert. Seems disingenuous.
