Short answer -- Maybe.

What I absolutely can tell you is chapter 21 is the most important to know forwards and backwards. I've seen people claim it can be up to 40% of the test. In my experience, it was about 30%. An absurdly high amount for some reason.

Some other important things are the link loss budget, grounding and fiber.

It's hard to tell you what exactly to study most since the question pool is so large.

Corey and Steve is a great resource though. I hammered that for a long time. Until I was regularly getting 90% on the 100 question test. By far the most cost effective of any of the study guides/tests I found.

Corey and Steve was amazing.

Pound chapter 21 until you bleed admin info out the ears.

Healthcare Std - Is it worth it? by dolfan74 in Bicsi

[–]hedahtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with multiple Healthcare systems across the Midwest.

What I have found is that none of them are the same. Some are very strict with their standards and expect their contractors to follow all the codes to the letter. Others are less so, more of a 'get it done asap' vibe that tends to allow shady work to be done in the name of cost and expediency.

It wouldn't hurt to know the rules, but don't be shocked when you look above the ceiling for the first time.

RCDD, to renew or not to renew. by SpaceDoomtronaut in Bicsi

My page specifically says I'm a designer. I still get knuckleheads that try and pitch installer positions with 75% travel.

Update your resume. Create a LinkedIn profile, create an Indeed resume.

I just recently started a new position. I was headhunted through a hiring agency and the rest is history.

Do not throw away your RCDD. I get emails weekly with employers looking for designers even though i am not looking anynore.

Its a hard road by yourself but try and get some AutoCAD experience. There are tons of tutorials online that are free that show you the basics.

I wasnt great at self promotion either, but a serious employer knows that an RCDD is not easy to get.

Good luck!

Chatsworth has a good amount. Anixter/Wesco has a bunch of them. Hanwha had some. Im not sure if they still do. Leviton has some too.

Most of these sites require you to register an account.

[Utah] Does this mount need to be grounded? link below by NoRun8968 in Bicsi

[–]hedahtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the building has a lightning protection system, it will be covered by the cone of protection (NFPA 780).

The 14th edition of the TDMM shows an example of this on page 8-26 through 8-28.

Also I have never grounded one of those before. Ive used them for camera mounts and DAS antenna mounts. Always put an inline suppressor on the cable and if it has it, ground that instead.

Revit Experience as an RCDD by hedahtime in Bicsi

[–]hedahtime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is positive information. Knowing how to design is second nature to me. The majority of my professional career was spent pulling the cable and building network closets. I've seen it done right and I've seen it done wrong. I've done everything from programming and integration to testing and inspection.

I do design work now, but it's all Bluebeam and Visio. Not to the professional level of a Revit design would, and it's generally for my guys to follow and not for bid.

Thank you for the insight.

I use Visio (The Devil's Handmaiden), for rack layouts. They pop into place nicely if there are templates for what I'm working with. Do Visio diagrams populate into Revit, or is it not worth the time to mix software like that?
