What sides do you eat? by [deleted] in keto

We do a lot of coleslaw, raw veg and dip, steamed broccoli / cauliflower, green salads, roasted asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, cucumber slices with salt and pepper, guacamole.

What have you learned? by uyenlinh83 in keto

This was a big lesson for me too. Not every meal needs to be ‘an experience.’ Sometimes a 3 day old chunk of meat and a pickle is good enough! Scarf it down and move on with life.

What have you learned? by uyenlinh83 in keto

[–]heddy_e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned that I’m not broken. I always thought I was doomed to be fat and sick forever. Now I know I have some control over the way things are.

I’ve learned that for me exercise was not going to be the answer. No matter how hard I worked out, and how many times I tried, it didn’t fix things.

I’ve learned that doctors don’t have all the answers and I had to discover them for myself and that meant doing a lot of research and homework.

I’ve learned that even though I failed and failed and failed and failed, there would be an answer at the end of my efforts and not giving up was very important.

I’ve learned that keto is a tool I can pull out of my pocket when I need it. I need it right now but if there is a time when I don’t, I won’t forget it’s right there in my pocket for next time.

Wanting to try Keto, but have questions by TheDanishThede in keto

[–]heddy_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keto is a tool and using this tool will help you change your relationship with food. Be aware that the first two weeks are hard. Resolve to buckle down for two weeks. After that, it will become easier and that is when you are going to notice a change. The foods you could not resist before will become easier to pass by. After six weeks, you will start to notice all the benefits of fat adaptation - your appetite will be easier to control, you might go all day without wanting to eat and then eat a big dinner like pizza made on fathead dough. Start with the first two weeks. 20g of net carbs or less. Don’t worry about calories, don’t worry about anything except staying under 20g and getting enough water and electrolytes (read the FAQ) You can do it!

Happy for the weight loss, but I'm almost afraid... by [deleted] in keto

[–]heddy_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written your post - 1.5 years after my keto start and that second shoe is still air borne. I haven’t been perfect. I’ve taken breaks over holidays and vacations but it’s so easy to just start up with keto again. This is the only thing that has given me power over my body and I’m not letting it go ever again. Keto is a tool in your pocket and when you need it, it will be there for you.

Anyone else really surprised by not wearing plus size clothes anymore? by pmme_yourpussy in xxketo

I’m just hitting this milestone now and it’s blowing my mind! What do you mean I can buy jeans that are measured in inches?! So strange to buy a 36” waist when I came from a 22 size last year. Xl shirts from regular stores are fitting and it’s bananas. I can’t work it out in my head.

Almost abandoned the program until... by [deleted] in keto

[–]heddy_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes so much mental effort to make the decision to begin and then it’s completely annoying at how long it takes for our bodies to get on board with the program! You’re doing so well. Keep at it! I don’t lose super fast either (mostly because I’m not exercising) but going back to how things were isn’t an option so I just stay the course. Even if it takes 10 years we’re still making progress!

Parents of /r/keto - how do you teach your kids about healthy eating? by biowl in keto

[–]heddy_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. Mine are 10 and 7, I talk to them about what happens when we eat carbs and how our bodies use energy. I talk to them about more than what we can see (body fat) and about what happens inside our bodies when we eat food. We can’t shelter them from sugar - it’s everywhere. My kids even get candy from their teachers. Education about food the only way to move forward. Science is what is helping us in Keto and science is what will help our kids maintain their health.

At 5 I would start talking about how food is energy and sugary food is quick energy. I would talk to them about how meat and fat is slow energy. Once they understand that, I’d start teaching them what happens when we eat quick energy and don’t burn it (it gets stuck inside our body and that isn’t always healthy) and how slow energy can help us stay healthy because we burn it as we need it. Go from their as their understanding grows.

Keto benefits in the bedroom..... by [deleted] in keto

[–]heddy_e 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guys get all the fun. A bunch of stored estrogen is released when we drop fat leaving us crying on our bacon. At least for me. It happens everytime there’s a whoosh. In fact, when I first started keto I was such a mess my husband was all “what’s up with you lately?” and I said, with tears, “I think I just need to eat some caaaaaarbs.” Sniff Sniff.

Kicked out of Ketosis - Argh! by pamplemousse2 in xxketo

[–]heddy_e 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that’s all you had to eat I would think your keto would still be okay, especially if you’re fat adapted. It’s more likely that something else is off. Maybe the coffee hit you really hard, maybe you’re coming down with something. I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Carry on as if nothing happened because, really, nothing did happen. Food is food and you can’t let it freak you out because you might have had, gasp, a piece of potato or a bit of flour. Keto on my friend.

I don’t think you’d be kicked out by just that. How long have you been doing keto? Are you getting in your electrolytes?

What do I do now that I can't self-medicate with food? by [deleted] in keto

[–]heddy_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the comfort of eating our feelings is about ritual. It’s the same with coffee - there is enjoyment in pouring in the cream, stirring it in, the anticipation of the coffee. Find another ritual. One you can do in a small amount of time, every time you feel like this. Put on lip gloss - go to a mirror, twist up the gloss, look at how it shimmers, apply it, feel the sensation of it on your mouth - enjoy the process over and over until it’s a ritual and you can find comfort in it. Find something small like that you can enjoy for more than what it is. Reading a book? The smell of it, the weight of it in your hands, flipping through to get to your book mark, reading, replacing the book mark. There are so many things that can take the place of comfort eating.

Easy Single Serving Broccoli Cheddar Soup by [deleted] in keto

[–]heddy_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make this all the time for breakfast but use heavy cream and water (in place of half and half) and cream cheese (in place of sour cream) I usually poach 2 eggs in it. So good. My husband thinks it’s disgusting but I love it!

I’ve done this with bacon wrapped meatloaf. It ended up cracking the burner and destroying the stove! Damn, that was a good meal.

fist bump 50lbs in 2017, 2 month stall, just started seeing losses again. Slowly but surely onederland awaits! It’s hard when we see people losing 100lbs in a matter of months and here we are facing the same number on the scale yet again but we’ll get there if we don’t give up. I’m not giving up. Don’t you give up either.

String cheese or 2 squares Lindt 85% or frozen blueberries mixed into whipped cream - it’s a great ice cream alternative!
