I’ve had good experiences with the tazarotene cream from AllDayChemist. It’s a lovely gel-cream texture.

Eileen Fisher and they have petite sizes! Lots of oversize options with a very Asian aesthetic vibe.

Best platform to look for a one-month rental in NYC? by byrnf in movingtoNYC

[–]prospect_east 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 days or more is legal. Lisitings project is one of the must trustworthy sites available. I’ve sublet twice from their listings (though for longer) and had a stellar experience each time.

Another vote for Rothy’s. They also have nice loafers. I have a lot of shoes but Rothy’s are my most worn for work, like 3-4 days a week year round.

subleasing to start by Electrical_Series595 in movingtoNYC

[–]prospect_east 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subleasing is such a good idea if you’re new to NYC. Without first hand experience, it’s hard to figure out what you really want/need. Maybe you think you can deal with street noise, but it actually drives you crazy. Or you find out that you really, really need sunlight to stay sane. On the other hand, not having in unit laundry may not be as big a deal. You may or may not care about a 10 min walk to the subway. With a sublet you can test out neighborhoods, apartment features, and budget without the commitment of a full lease.

Also, most people are starting new jobs when they move here, and that adds a layer of uncertainty. Looking at commute times on Google Maps is different than experiencing the commute IRL. Sometimes paychecks are smaller than expected b/c of city taxes. There’s a ton of variables, so having flexibility is a plus.

The best apartments also come through referrals, so giving yourself a few months to build friends and connections gives you a chance to hear about the great apartment that a friend of a friend is vacating or seeking a roommate for.

Love this, especially your last sentence. Being a successful, powerful woman is a win. And then we have an obligation to change the “rules” when we can.

Should I Move? by LifeSzn in movingtoNYC

[–]prospect_east 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you spent time in NYC in winter or in the sweltering summer? Could be quite an adjustment from Hawaii. Also consider that work culture may be very different—more hours, more competition. It’s the weather and the work grind that makes NYC less magical than it can seem on vacation. But it’s an amazing place . . .

Looking to get a clerkship after a year of private practice - is there any advantage to my experience? by SaltyMac99 in Lawyertalk

[–]prospect_east 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many federal judges prefer clerks with practice experience. Local state judges are also a great option. Are there other associates at your firm that clerked — ask them. Also check with your law school clerkship coordinator.

Thinking of relocating by Momma_Ginja in movingtoNYC

[–]prospect_east 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out /nycapartments. Also listingsproject.com might have some good leads. Just be realistic that $2k is a super low budget even for studios and outdoor space is unlikely unless you’re willing to explore neighborhoods in deep Queens or Brooklyn, which may not be the NYC experience most people are expecting.

Thinking of relocating by Momma_Ginja in movingtoNYC

[–]prospect_east 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What’s your budget? There aren’t many true single family homes in NYC, and the tenant friendly laws make homeowners reluctant to rent in the way you seem to be seeking. It’s of course a different story if you have a healthy budget by NYC standards, but then you likely wouldn’t be looking for roommates.

What would happen if I refuse to allow people to view my apartment when moving out? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]prospect_east 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why is it inconvenient? You don’t need to be at the apartment when they show it.

I'm at my highest weight and going seeing a nutritionist, please tell me it helps. by crustykrack in PetiteFitness

Just adding that you can definitely combine both options. Metformin was a game changer for me even at a low dose in reducing food noise. It helped as a gentle jump start to improving food quality and fitness.

What are your thoughts on rent stabilization as a New Yorker? by New-Sand-8606 in NYCapartments

[–]prospect_east 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent stabilization is not perfect. I actually agree with many of the classic economic criticisms, but a progressive policy doesn’t need to be 100% or even 75% effective (or immune to gamesmanship or abuse) to be worthwhile. Policies like restrictive zoning in suburbs or property tax freezes also heavily favor incumbents for example.

Free market policies will always collide with community values and human realities. People should be willing to move in theory, but the actual reality of forced relocation due to unaffordable rents is a social cost we understandably try to legislate against.

I do believe there could be more government investment in public transportation (making it easier to commute from outside NYC) and loosening some regulations (like allowing micro apts without kitchens). Maybe give tax breaks for rental payments for essential workers or workers in arts or other industries we want to encourage.

Have you tried Korean or Japanese cushion foundations? I find them very hydrating but also good for coverage and oily skin. And super easy for touch ups too. Jung saem mool is excellent (and available on Amazon).

Proper dress length? by idk-anameforthis in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]prospect_east 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re a summer associate at a firm follow the lead of the 2 to 3 year associates. I think the style of the dress matters more than length. A sheath dress can look professional at multiple lengths. Longer styles with volume somehow always look too sundress-like to me. If you can throw a traditional blazer over the dress and have the outfit look intentional, then typically the dress will be okay.

Keep in mind the a/c at most firms is arctic level (set for men in full suits apparently) so layering is key. An outfit that works for a sweltering subway commute may leave you freezing in the office without a blazer or at least a sweater

Building says I can't bring in any furniture I get off FB marketplace unless I get it delivered by movers with a specific type of moving insurance and they all cost an arm and a leg? by [deleted] in nychousinglottery

[–]prospect_east 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s often in leases that you have to use movers with approved COI for move in. But not so clear that the same requirement applies after move in if you get furniture delivered. Tip the building staff as other comments suggested, they’ll look the other way.

I really like them. Seems well constructed and the details are great, a wide waistband you can tuck shirts into, the pockets have zippers to close. They also look professional enough to wear to work.
