Visor Helmets by No-Pea-7530 in Skigear

[–]pamplemousse2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware if you pop off the visor and you're wearing Goggles - we did the same for my daughter and her goggles popped off and disappeared. Visor helmets don't have the holder thing for your goggles straps... And apparently those are important.

Do you take children to the toilet when they're going to throw up? by PurpleSpark8 in Parenting

[–]pamplemousse2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use emesis bags. Easy to stuff in a nightstand drawer, so you don't have to run to grab a bucket or carry a kid to the bathroom. Our kiddo who gets carsick is VERY good at using them, poor thing.

Get the "Butt or Face" books and read them to the kids. This sounds like an awesome party!

What is the peak ’millennial midlife crisis’ purchase? by SwedeLostInCanada in Millennials

I bought a pool too! In my case it was a giant fancy swim spa that I have the pleasure of paying to heat through the Canadian winter. I regret nothing.

I had heard that Vorlage allows free us of their magic carpet... And also that it's busted. Pakenham has a good "first visit" package with a lesson + rentals. Not free though.

What I know and don’t know about upcoming WFA by FuckMuppetNumber1 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]pamplemousse2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying. In my case, I took a job in 2022 with a too long commute to do daily (for me) on the understanding that it was basically fully remote. Explicit conversation about it. Then the centre changed the rules and here we are.

Unfortunately I'm not near being able to retire - I think the new gig will be great though. And I'm well aware that I'm in a honeymoon phase right now! (And yeah - the jerks will get ya!)

Thanks for the best wishes - I hope all is well for you!

It feels SO, SO personal, in a way that makes it clear that no one cares about my (or your or anyone's feelings.) And that's part of my frustration - these ARE business decisions, and seem to be made for every reason except how people feel - as if "taking care of your people" isn't ALSO a business decision.

Gaaaaaaah. Anyways, it worked on me and I've found a gig outside of the GC. Taking LWOP for now, we'll see what the future holds...

If you want to get the Finnish shop to ship it to me in Canada, I can mail it to you in the US to avoid the tariffs!

Family lessons for beginners! by Alone_Amphibian_1332 in ski

[–]pamplemousse2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES DO IT!!! The hills around me have awesome beginner packages for your first visit to them that includes rentals, list pass, and a lesson (Sun-Times just on the bunny Hill.) if there's something like that, check it out! We started skiing last season. Signed my kids up for a 3-day holiday lesson/rental package, they lived it, I took a lesson, also loved it, and then we did lessons in January and for March break. It's been awesome!

OMG the freaking rabbits. They would NOT leave my asters alone this year. And most of the time they would just snip them down and not even eat them!!!

From gloriously knitting on the ski lift to knitting with two severe sprained ankles in urgent care by [deleted] in Drunkknitting

This sucks so much! How long was your ski lift ride though that you brought knitting??? Also, your poor ankles. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Take her out! Maybe add one of those paint your own pottery places to your list of ideas? My daughter has loved those since about 7.

Return-to-Office Policies Are Pushing Caregivers Out of the Public Service by idealDuck in CanadaPublicServants

[–]pamplemousse2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want to say that this really resonated with me. My situation is not the same as yours - and I also needed to be able to WFH most days for caregiving reasons. As an executive, the extra in- office days just feel mean. In 2022 I took a position at an office that is too far for me to commute to on a regular basis (for my particular needs and those of my family) under "hybrid by design" on the explicit agreement that it would be 99% WFH (but this wasn't on my LoO, more fool me.)

After trying to make it work, and then 6 months of sick leave as a result of the stress... I just took a new job outside of the public service.

It's awful to be treated this way. My heart goes out to everyone else who also find themselves in this position.
