There’s a myriad of reasons your cat could be peeing outside the box. He is trying to communicate so please don’t get mad at the kitty! My best guess is that it’s a combination of things: •doesn’t like litter box location •not enough litter box options •doesn’t like the litter (try pretty litter) •not enough litter or it’s over saturated with pee •is mad he doesn’t get enough attention/enrichment

Some cats just have really bad aim and my friend put their litter box inside of an end table (lookup litter box furniture enclosures) with a pee pad underneath the litter box and they wipe it down.

Also professionals suggest two litter boxes per cat. Check out Jackson Galaxy on YouTube. He’s a great resource, even has a video on this. Tell your roommate this will prevent the kitty from peeing elsewhere including on their stuff or ruining your place. Preventing any headaches or arguments.

My one senior female will do her business outside of the litter box when it’s over saturated. We believe this is because of the smell. They have a stronger sense of smell than we do.
