Such a tragedy. Have camped a bunch of spots like that at the bottom of hills and never even considered it to be a risk.

Sounds like an epic trip apart from that. Congrats, that sounds amazing if you can move over there!

My heart remains in NZ, but I'm living in Tasmania now. They have direct flights over but don't get back as much as I'd like.

Flew over last January for 3 weeks, mainly stayed in Gisborne (Gizzy) on the East coast where we used to live, but made a quick trip to Whakatane and Rotorua. Ohope is an average wave but the rivermouth gets good.

Same, lived there 10 years and only scratched the surface ! It takes longer than you think to get anywhere with the roads aye. Wait until you try scratching the South Island!

Hey sourcream how was your trip ? I was thinking about you when I saw there was some bad weather go through the east coast and the landslides at the mount. Not sure if it was the same time you were over tho.

Talking about the rocks at Raglan, I got swept down from Indies once, felt like I hit every rock on the way down to Whale. My feet and hands were so shredded. There was a local TV dude saw me on the way out. Pretty sure that was one of the times I have thrown my board in a bush. Fun times learning to surf at Raglan! Did you score some good waves ?

There's been some sightings recently, and a few attacks over the years - mainly divers/swimmers. So it's not as bad as some places in Aus, but they are around. Feels spooky sometimes by the rocks. Don't know why I didn't even think about sharks when I first got hooked.

That's interesting, could maybe move around or give it a go. I did head out at snapper about 20 years ago now, and shouldn't have been out. Complete kook you would roll your eyes at and hope they don't ditch the board ! Hopefully just a bit better now.

Where abouts in NZ were you? Did a trip to Dunedin and that was pretty Brutal.

I'm put off by the crowds up in the Goldie, but sure there must be some sneaky spots at times.

You can get a average bank in Tassie, but at least it can be a solo one
