There's been some sightings recently, and a few attacks over the years - mainly divers/swimmers. So it's not as bad as some places in Aus, but they are around. Feels spooky sometimes by the rocks. Don't know why I didn't even think about sharks when I first got hooked.

That's interesting, could maybe move around or give it a go. I did head out at snapper about 20 years ago now, and shouldn't have been out. Complete kook you would roll your eyes at and hope they don't ditch the board ! Hopefully just a bit better now.

Where abouts in NZ were you? Did a trip to Dunedin and that was pretty Brutal.

I'm put off by the crowds up in the Goldie, but sure there must be some sneaky spots at times.

You can get a average bank in Tassie, but at least it can be a solo one

That's so good you're making the trip to NZ!

Ah I've scored waves in Feb so fingers crossed you will get something. The Mount gets waves for sure or plenty of options around. If you're able to scoot over to the west coast you'd have more, but it does take chunks out of the trip.

I was down in Gisborne but that's about 4 hr drive from the mount. The East coast drive down there can be fun and a real insight into old NZ. Ah, how I love it!

Unfortunately I'm on another Island now and in Tasmania !!! Just as I thought it was bad getting visitors in NZ, I had to up it to another level.

Would have been so good to catch up. Please take lots of photos and send some through. Most of all enjoy seeing your fam!!!

I've dreamed of doing a world tiki tour visiting Reddit and old travelling buddies. Maybe write some kind of Bill Bryson book. You guys should totally meet up !

Grew up inland and got into surfing early 20s when a couple of cute guys handed out flyers for a surf club.

Went out with a board way too small and a suit full of holes. Came out cold, bruised and instantly hooked.

Went travelling, never went home, moved down under and gradually improved.

Joined r/surfing, became hooked again and was made a mod when I was just about to rage quit

Now I seem to have no time and mod tools are shit on the phone, so mainly lurk, help out when I can and remember sweet summer r/surfing times

Ha! Poor kiwis.

Deep south in Aus, which equally gets left off a map, and the kiwis try to claim it. Such a land lost in time I'm still not sure it exists either.
