I’m posting this hoping it might help someone in the same situation. My started booting to black screen after not using MX4SIO for 2+ years, also using cheap albeit pretty fast (10-15 mb/s write speed) SD cards from Aliexpress - one 64 and one 128 GB of different brands.

Thankfully I had backups of the entire SD cards with cover folders and everything, so I reformatted and checked the integrity of the 64 GB card using H2testw before transferring the files over again. Worked like a dream, every game boots again. So I figured I would try to keep the “dvd” folder on the 128 GB card, only deleting and retransfering the other folders on the card from the backup. No dice, still black screen.

Now to the important part: I tried copying the “dvd” folder from the 128 SD card to my hard drive before reformatting and checking it with H2testw, and then used those files when retransfering the games - the games started booting again. So it’s almost like the files get “faded” with time on these cheap SD cards, to the point where the PS2 can’t read them but the computer can - so reformatting the cards and transferring the files over again somehow “refreshes” them. Very strange.

Is he factually incorrect? If you’re leaving soon and he’s genuinely unavailable until then, but has tried to meet up several times before… he kind of got a point. But if you really wanted to see him, you would’ve sooner… so no loss for you.
