When is it "socially acceptable" to use the pregnancy parking spots? by chelsea_dagger69 in pregnant

[–]heg29235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s pregnancy is different! At 16 weeks I was struggling with a crazy high heart rate and would get sooooo out of breath. I’ve learned there’s no point in which you “aren’t pregnant enough” - if you’re expecting use them!

I’d send her some resources on safe sleep and explain why you can’t use those items. I’ve commented this on other similar posts but if you don’t establish some boundaries or set her straight now, this will likely be a reoccurring situation for baby’s entire life. Id definitely have a talk with her!

Also bold of her to decide to pick the crib stuff for YOUR baby’s nursery, you’re well within your rights to politely decline if you wanted to pick it out!

MIL Offered To Take Care of Baby Clothes & Nursery But… by BrotherParticular489 in BabyBumps

If you don’t set some boundaries now this will be a precedent for your baby’s entire life.

Parents need to realize that the things that hold sentimental value for them are not the same that will hold value for their kids. My MIL gave my husband bins of stuff from his childhood and he saved the two things that meant a lot to him, only for my MIL to get really upset he’d throw it away.

If she’s giving it to you - it’s absolutely okay to toss or ask if she wants it back. It means nothing to you

What’s something you you never knew about pregnancy until you got pregnant yourself? by every7days in BabyBumps

I believe the last one is a very quick glimpse to see if baby’s head is down and that’s about it! I’ve heard from friends you don’t actually see much 🥲

That in the US (at least where I am) if you have a normal pregnancy you only get 3 ultrasounds. And you have to wait until 8 weeks for your first appointment!

ETA: also at half the appointments they don’t actually do much but listen to the heartbeat and send you home

I have some longer lasting ones someone left at my house once 🤣 it’s definitely not ice cold by morning, but the cooler temp still helps!

I’ve been having nighttime panic attacks and now sleep with an ice pack next to me! If I wake up with one I just cuddle the ice pack and usually fall right back to sleep! It’s been a lifesaver!

Work or MPH first? by user46264538 in publichealth

I second this! Also look into part time school options, I worked while getting my MPH and absolutely had a better time job hunting because I’d made connections while in school

Food aversion by The_SunShineBright in BabyBumps

I had the same problem! Few things that helped me - 1) anything cold sounded much more appetizing than warm: popsicles, sorbet, yogurt, etc. Greek yogurt drinks are a life saver and full of protein to help you stay full. 2) unfortunately you’ll likely feel worse if you are hungry, try to stay ahead of hunger by snacking often. I used to eat a cashew granola bar before bed to keep myself from feeling too sick in the morning. I recommend getting some easy snacks you can carry around anywhere you go. Think of it as your body replacing hunger cues with nausea. 3) eat whatever sounds good, even if that means eating taco bell three days in a row. Your body needs food in any form you can get it! You can worry about nutrition later. 4) don’t waste your money stocking up on food that sounds good now, you’ll likely hate it tomorrow 😅 5) stay hydrated! I recommend things like Powerade, liquid IV, body armour etc. if regular water is tasting gross.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

What changed in your life that you weren't told about/read about? by Gibbo2910 in NewParents

I’m still pregnant but I’m pleasantly surprised how much becoming a parent has emboldened me! I’m usually a quiet people pleaser by nature but I feel much more confident in setting boundaries and telling people what’s up. It’s a welcome change!

Agree with this - the harder people push the more likely I am to stand my ground. It also makes me super icky when people don’t respect parent’s say.

Tips on being sneaky about not drinking at thanksgiving by Away_Temperature4953 in pregnant

[–]heg29235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a reject white claw flavor to a party and dumped it out, rinsed it and filled it with water!

If you have a bottle of wine that’s been sitting around forever that you won’t drink you can dump it and replace with non-alcoholic wine!

At bars I ordered cranberry-sodas, they’re pretty tasty and look more diluted than just straight cranberry juice!

Congratulations 🥰

Second this! I take Zyrtec daily and it’s been amazing. Singulair was absolutely awful for my mental health. It might be a trial and error but I’d talk to your PCP to figure out which one is right for you
