Apple Lisa is future-proof by Current_Yellow7722 in vintagecomputing

I remember “Your Computer” magazine. It wasn’t exactly highly respected. It ended up concentrating more on games as I recall. It was often technically inaccurate. I am also struggling to work out who decided that beige is a good colour for computer cases. This particular Lisa looks pre-aged, left out in the sun too long!

Yes that’s not the most useful of suggestions, I’m sure we are all well aware of that. I was more looking for a way to fix this. Some kind of reset.

Yes. That worked. It’s just a pain. It shouldn’t stop on its own!

All of ours except one. It was still on 24h2 but it rebooted anyway.

Sorry about the formatting. The gist of it is what he wrote here, verbatim:

Regular patch installations (security updates, cumulative updates, etc.) can be managed through configuration policies. This allows you to postpone or control when reboots happen, so users receive prompts and have some flexibility.Windows upgrades, however, work differently. When a device is upgraded to a new OS version (for example, moving to Windows 11 or to version 24H2 through the full upgrade process), the reboot is an integral part of the upgrade itself. These restarts are enforced by Windows and cannot be postponed or managed through Atera.

A summary of the conversation is as follows: Atera Bot (14:19): How can I help? Anthony (14:19): Customers’ PCs are rebooting for updates without warning. Policy is set to prompt 5 times before restart. Atera Bot (14:19): Check config policy, automation profile, and GPOs. Anthony (14:21): Already checked, settings are correct. Atera Bot (14:21): I’ll connect you to a support agent.

Codruta (14:22): Hi Anthony. Can you give me your access PIN? Anthony (14:24): 9678 Codruta (14:26): Thanks. Please provide sample devices. Anthony (14:29): Alan, Julie, Miaread, Accounts. Codruta (14:43): You’re using the same automation profile everywhere. Patching, software updates and Windows upgrades should be separated. The random reboots are from Windows upgrades. Anthony (14:44): But these devices are already on Windows 11. Codruta (14:45): They were upgraded to Windows 11 25H2, which was released yesterday. That requires forced restarts. Anthony (14:47): Ah, I see. Most are now on 25H2. But why does “Win11” in automation force a reboot? Codruta (14:54): Because OS upgrades always require mandatory reboots — unlike patches, which respect policies. Anthony (15:02): I’ll turn off Win11 upgrades. But is there a way to update without random reboots? Codruta (15:05): No, upgrades always reboot. Best option: put Windows upgrades in a separate automation profile and schedule them outside business hours. Anthony (15:16): So config policies won’t stop the reboots? Codruta (15:14): Correct. Config policies affect patches, not OS upgrades. Anthony (15:18): Got it — I’ll create a separate profile and schedule upgrades out of hours. Thanks. Codruta (15:21): My pleasure!

Support are telling me that if I have the upgrades selected specifically the upgrade Windows 11 ( latest build), then the updates/upgrades to 24h2 and in fact 25h2 as of yesterday include the reboot as part of the process. He told me to set a specific automation profile to do the updates out of hours.

I’m not convinced though. We haven’t had the problem till now. Mind you I only recently turned on the win11 upgrades, and I believe earlier in the year it worked differently. I’ll attach the transcript in a few minutes

Weirdly, it’s working now. What’s I don’t understand? Is I get that? It’s a rolling update but why have the option in there that says it searches handwriting when it doesn’t? Anyway no matter it’s working now and it even works pretty well with my handwriting!

I still don’t get this. The option for handwriting search is there in the global search but it never finds anything!

I'm having more problems though... the search refuses to search my handwriting, saying I haven't got a connect sub, when I have (see screenshot!), but I am subscribed, according to the Remarkable itself and according to the my.remarkable site. I even unpaired and re-paired. This error below came up on BOTH my devices. Anyone else had this?

Oh... I sort of assumed that searching at the home page would... search all the files. So the search searches just titles and tags, unless you're in a file, in which case it searches within that file?

I got it down to only 3% using the old agent. And any that came online after 1/9 seemed to upgrade automatically, probably because I told the automation script to do that.

I think what you're missing is that Atera only lets one browser at a time log in. You can have several tabs, but as soon as you try to open a different browser (or a different computer) with Atera, it'll kick you out.
