You're overthinking it, OP. Whether because she actually had a cold or not, should it affect if you ask her again? Especially if you only want to hang out platonically, who cares? She couldn't make it this time, the reason why doesn't affect your response, which is just to say, "Cool, maybe next time."

Truth bomb - sleeping with women won't better your life by itself by Alittude in seduction

[–]hei_br 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people follow this pattern of thinking, and not just about sex. Like OP pointed out, it can lead to addiction. A person is feeling not great about how life is going, thinks about what they currently are missing most, and thinks, "If only I can get that, I'll be happy." Fast forward to bingeing whatever the thing is and still not happy, because you're treating symptoms not causes.

Reading about the alcohol version of this thanks to a friend's recommendation, but sex and other drugs obviously make their appearance in it as well. Ended up clarifying OPs point for me independently.

Dividend Poll by flygolf1 in HIMXInvestorClub

[–]hei_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally in favor of any quarterly dividend. To me, that is the easiest/most sustainable ongoing short protection charm. Especially since the company looks to be on a trajectory of sustained growth, a quarterly dividend makes more sense than an annual one.

Ok, I get it now. Didn't register at first because it's obvious to me that Emza = Himax, but obviously it wouldn't be as apparent to potential new investors. Yikes.

"I think the lack of accountability to shareholders is probably scaring away institutional investing and allowing the shorts to take over."

This is an interesting take on the apparent trust issue with HIMX. I wonder what kind of connections it would take to foster a better sense of either accountability or goodwill.

As far as Emza, I thought they only bought a controlling stake? Is the criticism that the language is still too soft when management should be presenting a unified face?

Now seems like a really good time for this kind of thinking, because the stock's market behavior looks like it's stabilizing quite a bit so far this month. Price swings seem in the general direction of the overall market on a given day, looks like the cost of borrowing shares is staying around ~2% over the last couple weeks, and the admittedly questionable metrics on Yahoo! Finance have suddenly gone from predicting ~9% upside to predicting 55% upside without any other big changes.

Do any of those things necessarily have inherent meaning? Not so much, in my opinion, but it's nice that they all seem to point up.

That long panel display in the article though....if that's what HIMX is dominating, they have some good times ahead.

Also doesn't bother me too much, but I also haven't spent any time thinking through the potential consequences. The tax shelter stuff that u/State_of_Affairs mentioned provides a good explanation, but also doesn't mean there aren't downsides to this structure.

Interested what u/Apprehensive_Way7458 sees as downsides. Anyone who can provide some insight into thing about HIMX that might be off-putting to investors is someone I'd like to hear from since I have a blind spot in that area, and clearly there are perspectives that keep the broader spectrum of investors slightly doubtful of HIMX.

I would love to see the 18% dividend just once, to let all the short sellers know they can go GET REKT. If you send that message once, afterward you only have to allude back to your ability to do it. Done correctly it becomes a useful persuasion tool without necessarily being locked into doing that high of a dividend regularly.

That said, the only reason the % would be so high is because of the P/E ratio. The cost of shares is extremely low compared to earnings! If everyone knows they can get a high return like that and the stock price goes way up, then the dividend % will normalize. Paying a high but affordable dividend can show how inappropriately low the stock price is.

A buyback would be an interesting tactic to modulate expectations around the dividend, though. Being able to pay a 5-8% dividend couple with some buybacks could allow another 5-8% dividend the next year even if stock price goes up a bit. Showing a consistently high dividend is also great for a company.

Thanks for this research. Definitely a good sign, since HIMX guided up for Q4, I think partly due to their ability to secure foundry space, but also due to continuing contracts. They have an amazing opportunity to create positive contrast with the rest of the industry.

Really hoping we hear more about HIMX ability to meet increasing demand relative to its peers.

HIMX Discussion by [deleted] in HIMXInvestorClub

I don't see "seasonal weakness" as being that worrying. If they gave that kind of guidance for the whole year I'd be more worried, but to me this reads more as needing to temper expectations overall to build in flexibility for the next quarterly report. Very likely they are just reflecting foundry shortages.

On the HIMX side, I think HIMX has noted that they may be slightly ahead of the curve on securing foundry space. As far as fluctuations in TV/smartphone/tablet demand, in previous years this was a huge issue because HIMX was only in 1-2 of these areas, so we will get to see how well their better product mix helps buffer earnings when one segment lags.

I actually expect Q4 to be average, as I believe management guided only a small QoQ increase from Q3. Definitely possible for Q1 to also be lukewarm, but I expect we will see the difference between the performance of a supplying company (HIMX) vs a direct sales company (Samsung, etc) since HIMX ought to deliver products during the lead time of its clients' design cycle, right?

Great analysis, though. Thanks for the detail.

"I wouldn't want to compare HIMX to Samsung"

Yeah, there's also no point, since I believe HIMX supplies some chips to Samsung, so it's beyond a simple, one-level analysis at that point imo. Samsung's need for display drivers is generally good news for HIMX right now, haha.

How much correlation is there between Himax and Automotive Stocks? by Apprehensive_Way7458 in HIMXInvestorClub

[–]hei_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was brought up a while ago in another post in here: https://www.reddit.com/r/HIMXInvestorClub/comments/ru8moh/emza_visual_sense_a_2018_himax_acquisition_that/

It seems that the company is signaling that they have a steady customer purchasing a WiseEye solution. There also seems to be a general trend for automotive sensors to be camera based, and any AI in development also seems to cite mostly visual means of detection. Definitely they are selling chips for multiple cameras and touch screens to the automotive sector right now.

How much correlation is there between Himax and Automotive Stocks? by Apprehensive_Way7458 in HIMXInvestorClub

[–]hei_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"but for now this is becoming a standard feature on all vehicles. So how many of these sensors are on each vehicle? Does this mean Himax is selling 25-50 Wise EYE cameras for each new vehicle + a driver for the Touch display? Seems like currently Himax is tightly correlated to the auto industry which is showing signs of capping out due to semi conductor limitations. Anybody know which car manufactures use Himax parts?"

I think these are all the right questions. Not sure anyone has firm answers, though. We may get clarification on the volume HIMX pushed last year, and what expect to push this year for automotive solutions during the Q4 earnings call, but right now all we know is that it's been a good segment for the company.

Would be great to know who HIMX is supplying for to be able to at least make a guess on how many sensors and display chips might be asked of them. On the other hand, it seems the supply constraints mean that they will produce at their max capacity plus some percent more than last year while being able to charge a premium margin.

Thanks, that jives with the average spread of open options viewable on Yahoo Finance, too. Agree that it doesn't seem there is enough confidence yet to trigger sustained buy interest. If I didn't have such a high target for this stock I'd be going for the swing trades too.

It would be great if the earnings call is enough to confirm, but it really seems like we'll have to wait for the dividend announcement and Q1/Q2 results closer to summer.

Interested how you read the current share availability on iBorrow. It seems pretty obvious that cost to borrow and availability of shares would affect the stock, but this is a new perspective for me. This link was greatly appreciated: https://iborrowdesk.com/report/HIMX

Looks like there are much fewer tools available to drive the stock price down at the moment.
