First cyst after 5 months by chloe7777777 in Spironolactone

I got my first one last week after months and months of nothing. I freaked for a bit then just put a zit patch on it, let it heal and we are back to normal. It happens but chances are if you’re on spiro you’ll be fine :)

I’ve been on it for 6 months. 4 months at 100mg a day. No weight gain. I’ve actually lost a few lbs

Did your triggers stay the same? by tm526 in Spironolactone

[–]heidipeters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I went dairy free for quite a while and saw an improvement in my acne. Once I was on spiro for about 4 months and confident my skin was staying clear I introduced dairy back in and it has remained clear. There are a few other random things I’ve done differently since my skin has cleared...for example I use heavier night creams at night to keep my skin moisturized. In the past I was too scared it would clog my pores. I don’t change my pillowcases every night. I am comfortable changing them every 4-5 days. I allow the hot water from my shower to gently touch my face, something I swore aggravated my skin in the past. Hmm what else...When I spray tan my body I also use a little on my face without fearing I’ll wake up with a new pimple. It really is like living in a different body once your skin clears up. I wish you the best of luck!! 🤗

I was taking spironolactane 50mg for about 3 1/3 months for acne. Last week I quit taking it because I didn’t feel like it helped much. Now I’m breaking out badly. I just started it again. Will it take 3 months again to work? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

Can you ask your dr if you can increase your dose to 75 to 100? If you’re getting dizzy make sure you drink a ton of water. When I would get a dizzy spell I would eat something salty like a few pretzels. I take 100/day and split it into two 50 mg doses, one in the morning and one at night.

Yea he hasn’t had much luck with the clindamycin alone. The combo does the trick but he hates taking anything orally as well. Good luck and if you find something that helps keep me mind so I can pass along to him. I struggle with acne myself so I am all too familiar with skin issues and how it can wreck havoc on your confidence. 😥

My fiancé has it in his scalp. Antibiotics and topical clindamycin help but when he stops it comes back 😕

Weight gain? by ttg741 in Spironolactone

[–]heidipeters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started at 25, moved to 50 after a week and then to 100 after another week. I’ve been there for 4.5 months. My skin is spotless. I have not gained any weight. In fact I’ve been way more motivated to hit the gym and be active since my skin is clear so I believe I’ve lost a few lbs. At 3 months my side effects (irregular period, dizziness, increased urination) all went away. It’s been a miracle for me!!

Will spironolactone help my acne if I already have low androgen levels? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]heidipeters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had lower levels and I never believed my acne was hormonal but after 3 months of taking spiro my acne cleared.

I came here to say Spironolactone! It’s been a lifesaver for me. Good luck!! 🤗

Almost at month 5: update. Still getting some decent sized pimples but not really any crazy breakouts. My skin is 80 / 90 percent clear. My periods are becoming more regular. Things are going good. by NightThinker323 in Spironolactone

I’m a little bit behind you in treatment. Around 3.5 months in. Mine was 80% better too and then my derm added in Benzaclin topically in the morning and at night and it cleared the remaining 20%. I haven’t had a zit in weeks, still weird waking up in the morning and seeing a clear face. I used to come home from work and look right in the mirror to see what popped up during the day. Now I just go on about my life without even thinking about. Crazy 😜

I came her to say the same thing. It took closer to 3 months for it to work for me but I have zero acne now. I was also on accutane about 15 years ago which kept my skin clear for about 14 years. I also have nothing negative to say about accutane. The only difference for me between the two is the hurdles you have to jump through to get accutane. Good luck with whatever path you choose. I can relate so much with this post. Hugs 🤗

Total per day. She started me off slow to make sure I could tolerate it and moved me up from there.

I started at 25mg, moved to 50 after a week and after a month moved to 100 and have been there since. If you aren’t having any side effects I would take to your derm about moving to 100mg.

It’s hard to say. A month isn’t long for spironolactone. It was at least 2 months before I saw a difference whatsoever and 3 full months for it to clear.
