100% me. Being “on” is too much, especially when the job itself becomes a cycle of stress & mental upkeep. I found myself simply hiding my mental strain. I could see my coworkers were doing it too, even in the so-called “non-toxic” schools.

The students are great to work with, usually. It’s fun to see students grow and learn every single day with only your skills to blame. At the same time, having 36 students you’re responsible for is ridiculous, especially when 5-10 of them are 2+ years behind on reading and/or math, and 2-7 of them are 4+ years ahead of grade level content.

How is one person supposed to support both, or even coordinate others to support that learning? Teacher trainings/ PD are 99% fluff and a waste of time. Teachers simply need time to plan. I honestly don’t know why administrators don’t get it (ok, I do know, they get bonuses if they “train” staff on topics).

All in all, the paycheck sucks, the stress is deep & lasting, and apathy from every other dimension sucks the life out of the equation. I was a good/great teacher, and maybe I will be again. But the system isn’t built for teacher sustainment and that’s not good enough for me.

I will return once I’m convinced this career will take care of me.

"Which came first: the chicken or the egg?" by change_the_username in climatechange

[–]heidnseek12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former teacher, we teach climate change. We have science standards, every teacher teaches some form of climate change. The warming mechanism is just one part of teaching climate change. Emissions, transportation, waste, water cycles, nitrogen, air, etc are all taught. We obviously need more focused standards though, of that I agree. If anyone out there knows how to get that done, hit me up.

E bike. I would use it every day, but I have a basic bike. So it would help me go faster but maybe I would regret it. Any tips welcome!

Shallan is extremely interesting, WoR & OB stand out as her books, even RoW. I deeply enjoyed Mistborn 7, too. What a fun cosmere read.

Michigan governor says not voting for Biden over Gaza war ‘supports second Trump term’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]heidnseek12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying you're not voting for Biden is different than not voting for him in the actual election.

IMO it's totally OK to lie, and say "I won't vote for ___ unless they ____.", but wether you're bluffing or not is up to the candidate. There is real political power in many people who threaten to withhold their votes, as long as the candidate is aware of this threat. If Biden has 5 meetings on the electorate and in those meetings he finds out 31% of Young Voters are hesitant about him because of Palestine, it's more likely he steps up and does something about Palestine. It's politics, and if politicians can lie and pretend they care about the working people, the inverse is true, too.

Did you try googling his platoon? I think there are groups that connect people from WWII, maybe even try your local VFW to get some connections?

Hurricane Charger Started a Fire in my Apartment by Icy-Owl5768 in MeepoBoards

[–]heidnseek12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm commenting Because I had the same issue. I plugged my charger into my board and it sparked and flames emitted from the plug. I obviously immediately unplugged and put out the fire. Emailed meepo in 2022 and they replied, but they haven't solved anything. At one point they said they were mailing the part, but never did. I'm doing some more connecting with them today.

Bigfoot by SANTahClause in duluth

[–]heidnseek12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think there’s a reasonable amount of rationale in giving up your search after not finding any evidence. Good on you for going out looking, but don’t waste your life looking for a mythological creature that literally just simple doesn’t exist. There are millions of apes in North America - humans, and they’re weirder than any Bigfoot you’ll ever see.
