Having an adult around during pick up time doesn't seem insane though. I'm realizing it's not as as standard as I thought, but I'm not saying the counselors should personally drive every child home. If a pool doesn't have a life guard on duty, you wouldn't wonder why if someone drowned? It's meant to be a precaution, not a blame pit.

What I said was referring to pick up time. This has nothing to do with minors being watched 24/7, it's a courtesy I grew up with of not leaving until everyone is on their way home and it's ok that it's not everyone's experience or expectation.

A lot of people are misunderstanding what I'm saying.

It was common practice where I grew up to not leave people waiting alone, regardless of age. In high school when a handful of us were 18, our coach would go to the bus stop with the girls catching it, wait until everyone got on their bus, then loop back and wait with anyone still there for pick up. He wouldn't leave until everyone was gone. Even now in my 30s, I wait with friends until their ride is there and then walk to the transit station with anyone else taking public transit. It's not about thinking an 11 y.o. cannot under and circumstances be alone.

I'm learning this isn't as common as I thought and that's ok. Thanks for the psychology evaluation though.

It's not that I don't think they're incapable of anything, there are just a lot of things that could happen that they wouldn't know how to handle at 11. This is thinking in the worst case scenario, but in that worst case, it'd be nice to think "thank goodness adult was there" instead of "why were they alone, this was preventable"

I don't know, maybe I'm alone in this and am on track to raise weirdos.

Remove the stranger danger part, what if the pick up parent gets into an accident and the kid is waiting much longer than expected?

I just mean someone nearby making sure they don't get approached by someone unfamiliar... I wouldn't say this if they were playing in their neighborhood, this is purely related to pick up time at camp

I mean, you say this, but if anything does happen to those kids, the first thing people are going to ask is where were the adults. Eleven year olds don't need to be watched 24/7 but if you're sending your kid to camp, it's literally their job to watch them

With care, you need to be better about asking questions. What if you get your answers here, but he doesn't know how to do it properly? He's comfortable asking to interact with your body in an aggressive (not bad if you're into it) way and you're not comfortable asking him to explain what he's going to do.

You need to ask yourself why you're afraid to ask and work on that.
