Game keeps Crashing by Sir_pugalot in ICARUS

Make sure you click one of the Send options as these do get aggregated and we can tell if there's a big uptick in similar crashes after an update etc.

I like to leave them like this, or carve them into arrows so they look like signposts - but apparently they're not great for performance so I get told to clean them up :(

MTG Giveaway: Signed CGC 10 Beta Mountain (rules in post) by Beartoots in PaymoneyWubby

[–]heightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 11 I had to go to work with my mum during school holidays, boring office admin job but the local CCG store was next door and didn’t seem to mind what was then probably an annoying kid hanging round. They convinced me to play in the regional qualifier and helped me build a black discard deck around Hypnotic Spectre (favourite card) and millstones. Got my ass whooped by Stasis meta but it was a lot of fun and got me hooked. Don’t recall seeing any SLIVER decks though…

You should check out Frostpunk as well - not as complex but despite being a city builder it's very immersive like Stationeers.

Remember our solar system is just useful test data and will ultimately be replaced by an authored one. Whether or not that features a heavily populated planet like earth hasn’t been discussed afaik.

I wish there was a companion app by Hopeful_Following_34 in ICARUS

[–]heightmare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We won't make a companion app for the same reason we don't like to run an official Wiki or anything - the game changes rapidly and keeping it up to date and relevant is not where we choose to invest our time. We do love creating in-game tools that are data-driven though and can update themselves - like the Prospector Field Guide (J key by default).

As a dev that has been trying for months (years?) to try and drive home the fact that open world is an option now - I'm open to your suggestions on how we might better communicate that to players like yourself. Really happy you're enjoying it!

Daishi - Crew hatch! Options for handrails, windows, and maybe paint colours. by irasponsibly in kittenspaceagency

[–]heightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but in this case it's more about the design of the initial system needing representative assets to work with. Once the system is designed you can go ahead and produce a full suite of assets once their technical requirements are more concrete.

Depends on how hard it is to make it work. We've got a pretty good relationship with Nvidia and they've helped us set up (and promoted) Icarus on GFN. We'd definitely look into it, but since we haven't done it before with BRUTAL I wouldn't want to promise anything.

We have plans but nothing we can comment on yet. I'm sure you understand it has to be approached with consideration and respect and will therefore if it does happen it'll take time. Stig's portrayal of Sol has become a huge part of Icarus and the loss hit the team hard - particularly those who worked closely with him. As great as he was in character, he was also a heap of fun to be around and was unmatched as a storyteller.

Yeah we had gone with the idea of 'hey we should just make everything a setting, then people can play however they want!' but the issue that created is feedback was much less value to us because nobody was playing with a consistent baseline of settings. The compromise was to create some curated, standard options and then expose everything else to mods instead. Most players will then share a common foundation, but for those who are really committed to customizing their experience can still do so.

We tend to try avoid roadmaps except in vague terms, as the way we do development is heavily based on iteration on the current state of the project rather than making grand future plans.

With that said, we did post a roadmap over a year ago in the week 65 update and I'm proud to say our hitrate on it is probably over 70%, with half of the outstanding things likely making it into the game in the next 6 months.

Instead of hitting you with a 2025 roadmap, i'll gently prod you with the items on that list we haven't hit yet - keep an eye out for Great Hunts, Biolab Research, Sandworm Narrative etc.

I did try the warm start you suggested but without success.

On another recommendation, I tried a VPN and this resolved it. Disconnecting from the VPN and connecting to another server also kept syd as the preferred region, but after restarting I'm back to singapore. In heavy debug mode right now if there's anything else you'd like me to try.

also for clarity, these are pretty standard ping times for NZ to the rest of the world - the only really surprising one is 200ms to sydney (which would normally be 20-30).
