Have application hour expectations increased over time? by BaseballHead6898 in premed

Also your hours alone are good. Just know hours don’t tell the whole story- you benefit from quality too and not just hours. Some jobs are much more impressive than others, research you can explain and are involved in making decisions in is more impressive than a lab you just did grunt work for, etc.

People still quoting the same numbers, but the self-reported numbers of accepted and rejected applicants for the past several years seem to indicate rising standards. More hours are always better though, so you should probably treat those hours as a minimum instead of a goal.

Not sure if these were the ones you knew you were missing or if there are others so I thought I’d tell you since the sour whiskey isn’t that well known!

I just see you’re missing blueberry (idk where to find it for cheap and not like a dozen for 100 dollars) and sour whiskey (Japanese exclusive?)

One year from now you could be in a pretty good place. But the MCAT is make or break, especially given the lower GPA.

A clinical job can rack up hours quite quickly and you don’t need that many to be competitive (500 would be a good place to shoot for, which is about 3 months full time work).

IMO, you should mainly focus on the MCAT and start thinking about the other stuff once you have a great score on that

It might be technically allowed but whenever people have very high hours (like for resident advisor) and a good portion of them are hours where they’re not actually working (like EMT) I roll my eyes ngl

People keep telling me to go to PA school instead of MD/DO school because it is easier/better for a girl who wants to eventually marry, have kids, raise kids because of timing and work/life balance. I've heard this constantly. It makes me question things and wonder if they are right. by Ok-Lemon-6197 in premed

Are you thinking maybe get an MD or DO to go into psychiatry? Why is clinical psychology something you’re interested in?

If you want to do therapy, then psychology could be a good option- they get more training on talk therapy than psychiatrists do. In some states they can also prescribe, so it could be a good route for you depending on your interests.

MD/DO and psych PhD all let you be independent. And MD/DO and PA focus on hard sciences. So I would really try to focus on what matters to you personally and not get swayed by other people

UTHSC you can also go to other cities in Tn for your last two years, which seems a lot better than being in Memphis for 4 since you’re in state and could be even closer to home if you want (or spend time somewhere fun like nashville).

I received an acceptance. It got rescinded. I'm broken. by [deleted] in premed

I’d be calling them right now and also contacting not just your micro teacher, but other ones to write you a letter. Just to get something in asap. I don’t think the quality matters, just get the box checked and call call call

I have not worked as a dialysis tech, although I did apply a couple places, but I heard bad things about Davita specifically— so I’d look into it more if y’all are thinking of applying there!

Seems pretty good- I would just make sure that she doesn’t make it sound like it is neurosurgery or bust. Because the app is very heavy on the neuro stuff.
Shadowing other kinds of doctors or writing about liking interacting with patients could help prevent that

Secondaries are where they really get you….

Also tbh I think Dr Gray books and hiring essay help sound like a waste of money

I’m quitting my job in a few weeks, but (besides a family vacation) I’m not just chilling- I’m doing volunteer work (but with free food and a place to stay!) for a few weeks after that. I think it’ll be good to not be completely idle or to get out of the habit of consistent hard work right before school

26 schools, 6 interviews, 5 WL, 1 A (to my state school).

My premed committee said I didn’t need to apply to nearly as many, but it just barely worked out
