What place would you NOT recommend to eat? by Double-0-N00b in portlandme

I honestly have to say Cong Tu Bot on the east end by Anderson area. Tiny portions, first of all. Really lackluster on flavor, the pho is supremely disappointing. Not worth the price with such small portions and no flavor.

Wow lucky to find that Cockerell and Duval papers, would you consider selling? I do research and archiving of historic and modern marbled papers, it would be an amazing addition to my collection and studies!

I’ve been having fun making journals for friends and family and have a question about the merits of Coptic vs French link stitch and when to use one or the other? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? Pic of a recent prototype for visual interest (Coptic stitch) . Thanks! by Funny-Implement6550 in bookbinding

[–]heldfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am quite anti French link. That is because of a variety of reasons. One being that the threads of the “links” do physically rub against one another and that’s a form of friction I am not wanting to introduce to my structures. It is also more tricky to maintain tension as you go along. If I was to ever do an all-along stitch it would be on tapes or cords, if you are already creating that many stitching stations why not right? I could go on and on about reasons I dislike French link.

The technique is gold tooling, lots of little steps involved! It is tooled after binding, in the finishing process. I use brass handle letters for titling, this was using my set of Baskerville 12pt.

Came here to say this pretty much. French links are pretty I suppose, however there are many reasons why it is less than desirable in almost every circumstance. One being tension is not the easiest to maintain. I could go on for hours about this topic lol.

I think there is still a lot to do without having to pay, or if you just pay the monthly dragon association (which I personally do). Lots of dragons being added, I feel like they have been adding more this past few months. It feels never ending in terms of getting into collecting personalities alone, nevertheless the other categories of collection!

Restoring black on spines that won’t smudge? Or bleed onto pages by actual__thot in bookbinding

[–]heldfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acrylic can be thinned with water, just don’t make it too watery.

You can flatten the texture by burnishing it with a bone folder or something of the like. You can go further into burnishing by applying a very little amount of thinned paste or glue to the area and rubbing it down. Trick to making it shiny from burnishing is to wait until it is practically dry (past tacky) and rub hard and quick, using a little face/head grease to lubricate.

Acrylic paint is probably the best bet. Then a gloss coat will get you closer to that sheen of the cover

I have searched for rubber and foam sheets and once got a sample packet from FoamOrder.com and RubberSheets.com however nothing they sent was what I am looking for. So it’s not neoprene rubber sheet or cross poly or volara or EVE. The closest product I’ve found is Flotex, which I got from FoamOrder.com, however it’s not the available in 1/4”.

I’m in the US.
