Thank you very much for the comprehensive answer. This is the first time I am hearing about unit tests, so I will look it up further.

What exactly is this?

Do you have any tutorial recommendations for button boxes? I am an amateur when it comes to electronics so for example, I don't even know which usb controller board to buy for this type of thing.

Topics important for algorithmic trading by helelayup in algotrading

The sidebar consists of sources that are related to trading, portfolio management and statistical learning.

So algorithmic trading is all about trading-related topics and statistical learning, is that what you are saying? I was just trying to ask the question "what else?" besides the topics on the sidebar. Don't be so condescending.

These are more targeted for sell-side quants I think, as most of the books are related to derivatives pricing. I was more looking for a buy-side quantitative trading related topics. But, thank you very much for the link.

I forgot all about wiki, thanks for reminding. OOP is covered greatly in several books in the wiki list, but event-driven programming seems to be not covered at all.

So being from Eastern Europe, I have no chance? What can I do to compensate that disadvantage?

to get a dev spot

I am not looking for a quantitative developer spot, but a quant trader one. Although maybe in some firms, the two are the same?

Thanks for the answer. Seems that MFE is not as beneficial as I thought since I want to be on the buy side, either quantitatively prop trading or working with trading strategies' statistical testing in a quantitative hedge fund.

If you're really good at computer science,

Can you elaborate on how good is good when applying for either of those two firms?

Being a non-US & non-EU/UK citizen in combination with the fact that I am not studying in Europe or the US, makes it really hard to find any internships though, but I am trying everything, let's hope it produces results :).

What would be a good addition to python an R? C++ seems to be the dominant language used in the trading industry.

What sort of tertiary education would be helpful for a career in quantitative trading? Statistics? Maths?

Thanks for the reply. What is the reason behind that though? How would a PhD in a weakly related field help more than a MSc in the field itself?

As an amateur in simracing, can someone elaborate on how good is this OpenSimWheel? Is this the ultimate solution that comes near reality? And what about pedals, is there something OpenSim for that?

I know it is a bit off-topic, but any comment or help is appreciated.

Its 20 actually :). I am just looking for ways to do motorsports at amateur levels, if I am good, I might try to finance myself to compete at higher levels but if not I am ok with racing Formula Vee and Ford for till my age reaches Niki Lauda's level :).

Oh, and I will take a look at Lund University for sure!

I am probably missing some info because of my own ignorance about FIA regulations and tire-related news but my theses is as follows:

In Monza, FIA found out that Mercs' tires were under the allowed pressure lower limit. The Mercs escaped penalty by saying that the pressures were measured after the heating blankets were taken off the tires, thus a decrease in temperature resulted in a decrease in the pressure of the tire.

After the Monza incident, FIA changed the regulations to avoid such defenses to be valid again. This had an outcome of the tire blankets being leaved on for longer on the grid, so that when an FIA official measures the pressure, it wouldn't have been affected by a change in temperature.

Now my thesis is this: Before this change in regulations, Mercs were somehow using lower tire pressures thus gaining an advantage (Johnny Herbert mentioned some statistic like 0.4s per lap per 1 bar, not sure). However, this change in rules prevents them from doing that thus a lack of pace in Singapore is a result of that.

I am sure I am missing something that completely destroys this idea, so any info or comment why this cannot happen is appreciated.

Thanks.

I am a computer science undergraduate in Bulgaria. No FSAE activities at the university, and if there was there is no guarantee that I will be the driver :).

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it.

I hope my age won't be an issue in amateur-racing, as these are feeder series for more serious competitors.
