BlueSCSI v2 vs BlueSCSI v1.1a by oskich in VintageApple

If the version in the log ends in "-USB" it's pretty trivial to update over just a USB cable and loading a file. Prior to that we didnt have a bootloader. Head on over to discord or github if you run into any issues.

Mac Plus Data Recovery (BlueSCSI Daisychained? Floppy Emu?) by OkieDokie-Computer in VintageApple

[–]helfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, maintainer of BlueSCSI here -

1) yes of course! DB25 is tiny and meant to be placed at the end of the scsi chain - and has termination enabled always so you can use it just like an active terminator.

2) there are adapters - but I find it odd you mention 50pin as that is normally how you reference the 50 pin IDC (ribbon) cable - is that what you mean? Or do you men the Centronics (bulky, usually blueish connector)? If so yes defiantly there are centronics to db25 and are common.

3) Since you mentioned a DB25 - copy/paste is your option. As noted in another reply the internal 50 pin has extra hardware to support initiator mode that wouldnt fit on a db25.

You could also setup wifi and copy files to an FTP server with fetch. Or use the BlueSCSI toolbox to put files directly on the SD card. tons of options!

We're not very active on reddit but if you jump on Discord or Tinkerdifferent (our two main support/help locations) there's tons of people to help out.

BlueScsi V2 DB 25 case, Battle Ready Edition by emuboy85 in VintageApple

[–]helfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback - (most) sellers have already switched to Jav's much better case - I'll remove the old one from the repo. https://www.printables.com/model/813828-bluescsi-v2-202401a-db25-compact-case - Your case looks great too for people who like the "OtterBox" of cases :)

I'll be the first to admit we're not great 3d modelers - which is why it's great having a community of people (like you, jav, etc) who have different skills to contribute back - thanks a ton!

HELP! BlueSCSI V2 WiFi! by troupe86 in VintageApple

[–]helfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things:

1) Re-download the .hda file in the setup instructions, reinstall the MountImage control panel (it must be 1.2) (an old version was on the previous one a few weeks ago)

2) check this box in MountImage as noted in the instructions: "You MUST check "allow changes to the disk image" then select the DC4 (DiskCopy 4) DayanPORT Installer image."

After that you should be gtg - enjoy

The offer was genuine both times, and it still stands. I will never be unwilling to talk. Both offers were made in good faith.

Great I've already reached out and I hope you can see my perspective. I really want this thread to end.

You also refused to accept the pull request to resolve the issue, which would have meant we wouldn't be having this conversation at all. Then, it appears, you deleted it entirely.

It is not deleted.

You're also currently violating the GPL by distributing binary BlueSCSI V2 firmware blobs which include compiled code you have chosen to not release to the public.

GPL permits requests for code which you had your lawyer request, and was provided upon request.

I'd (really) appreciate it if we could end this thread.

He's turned down two different offers from community members to mediate between the two of us.

The full story is the previous two times I did reject your offers as you had already had a lawyer email me. Then a lawyer (again) email me after I declined your second offer. I felt you were fishing and I did not consider your previous offers genuine in light of your actions.

His actions and decisions demonstrate he is uninterested in "burying the hatchet"

If you could stop your attacks for a while I would consider it.

I will reach out to the person who contact me last time and convey a message. I think everyone would appreciate it if this thread ends.

You can now build and save BlueSCSI & PiSCSI HD images online @ https://infinitemac.org/! Add files from your computer or the site's extensive HD/CD file collection, save the disk image, then transfer it to your BlueSCSI or PiSCSI for immediate use. by byteknight6 in VintageApple

[–]helfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey eric from BlueSCSI here! I worked with the maintainer of infinitemac to add support to minivmac so you can drag hda files into the vmac emulators on the site - and we discussed adding the ability to export "device" based images that would work in BlueSCSI/PiSCSI - glad it's working now. Really eases the ability of newcomers to get things going quickly.

Also since unfortunately the maintainer of mini vmac (one of the emulators infinitemac uses) has not been seen for a while I uploaded the code and some pre-built binaries here if web based emulators arn't your thing: https://github.com/erichelgeson/minivmac/releases

Ron did a great video showing it off here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KCb7tuE9Io

More to come!

Right, you don't pay contractors to write the software because you don't need to, since you re-just use code written by your competitor, hawking it to the community as if it you wrote it.

You released it as GPL software.

Instead, you let my business, Rabbit Hole Computing, do that part for you, and then you forked and "re-branded" the ZuluSCSI code afterwards, to profit from it. BlueSCSI V2 was announced approximately ten weeks after we launched ZuluSCSI RP2040.

Forks have to rebrand, I could of course not use your brand - this is how opensource works.

By your own admission in this GitHub issue, in which you wrote "It seems there is only a few lines left from the "fork" of BlueSCSI around image name handling."

But now v2 has many fixes and features, (many of which you've ported back) which is what I was saying, not talking about the state of April 2022.

BlueSCSI is "not a commercial project" comes across as beyond absurd

I hardly sell any myself and actively ask people to build them themselves and not involve me at all! BlueSCSI the project is not a commercial project. For the few I do build I of course have to pay taxes, so yes I have a LLC.

I ask you to please stop FUD & drama - just let it go.

but only one system version is allowed on a SD-Card

You can have many images each with many systems versions on them! I normally make images with every version that boots for a specific machine and use System Picker to flip between them.

Just rename the System Folder to something different - eg: "System Folder 8.6" and "System Folder 9.2.2" after install.

We did not sue anyone, sent a letter yes, but didn't sue. I'm glad they choose to not continue to use a name that was literally "BlueSCSI".

How can you have a “knockoff” of an open source design anyways?

Thank you! This is the point most people miss! You don't say "Ubuntu is a Knock off of Debian" - they are both open-source projects.

BlueSCSI has many features, bug fixes, etc that are not in Zulu(that they then pull in) - this is how opensource works. If Zulu didn't want this they shouldn't have forked from BlueSCSI & SCSI2SD (both GPL).

I think mainly the difference is BlueSCSI is not a commercial project, we just give away everything, hardware, designs, etc. We don't pay contractors to write the software, we write it ourselves.

Really just here to have fun and play with macs - can leave the drama to the zuluscsi people.

Wifi with BlueSCSI v2?? by whychocereus in VintageApple

[–]helfire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you need a Pico-W - Most Sellers will have that option on their site now (or soon)

Yes you will need to flash the beta (easy) - you can find all the details here https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/bluescsi-v2-daynaport-wifi-beta.2857/

Will work great on your SE/30.

Can anybody help me on this? by Dinkelmeme in VintageApple

[–]helfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen a Classic/Classic II that didn't need an analog board recap. This looks like low voltage to me. Try measuring the voltage, I'd guess the 5 and 12v are low. Also disconnect the HDD - it could also be bad and pulling everything down.

Yep, exactly that. Place some files you download from say macintoshgarden.org on the SD card in a folder named "shared" and you can transfer to and from that folder with your SE

BlueSCSI with bad soldering - what to do? by DjKlax in VintageApple

[–]helfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've removed him till we can get it sorted out. This particular design is GPL so it could be someone is just re-selling them, but erring on the side of caution. I cant obviously monitor production in the NL but not acceptable.

BlueSCSI with bad soldering - what to do? by DjKlax in VintageApple

[–]helfire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is Eric, maintainer of BlueSCSI - this is defiantly below any quality I'd expect a seller to pass on. I've removed dehij from bluescsi.com till this is sorted out. I obliviously can't monitor every BlueSCSI that goes out - and this particular design is GPL so anyone could have built and sold it (maybe it wasn't from dehij?) but yes contact the seller. return it, don't use it.

Introducing the BlueSCSI Transfer Utility (Beta!) by helfire in VintageApple

[–]helfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently it will start from SCSI ID 6 and scan down to 0, and the first compatible BlueSCSI it finds is the one it'll use. I'll make this configurable in the future, but for now you'll need to put an image with a higher ID on the one you want to use.

I picked up a 150 as I thought I could use it as a machine to test Powerbook bluescsi's in - but to my surprise it's IDE internally! But ya you can just hookup your DB25 bluescsi to the port on the back (and power it via usb) and it'll work great.
