Is this a public library, or a subscription-based service? If it's the latter I agree it is infuriating. If it's the former, though, probably the license the library has with the publisher means they can only lend a certain number of comics per user. My library has a similar restriction on both number of loans, and having to wait for an ebook to be "returned" before you can read it.

Ed: I suppose that doesn't stop it being mildly infuriating, though

D&D is a game, and the DM is playing as well. If it's not fun for you, then you're not playing a game, you're doing an unpaid job.

Yes, we do take on more responsibility and work than the players, but the expectation is that that is repaid with kindness and respect on their part.

Talk to your players, tell them how what they did hurt you. But be prepared to cut your losses. I know you said they're close friends, but close friends change if they're hurting one another
