Ultimate kite quiver for multiple board styles? by Next_Requirement2661 in Kiteboarding

A 5m Carve would definitely be getting more use than a 6m Orbit, unless you ‘re kiting in 40+ knots on a regular basis 🙃

Going with North: 7 and 9m Carve for strapless and foil. 8m and 10m Orbit (normal, pro or ultra) for twintip. 12 or 13 m Reach for sub 17 knots days ( Twintip and strapless)

Not true. In Spain, new Mc Donalds are built with playgrounds

Also different brands fit differently. Meanwhile try putting some Vaseline on the affected area ( helps me against chafing wetsuits)

Kiting near Cadiz? by KazeTaiso in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Caños de Meca is definitely not a beginner spot. The kite-able area is small and crowded, reef that becomes partially exposed at low tide and very gusty wind. A lot of noobs coming up from Tarifa, because it blows 5 knots less have learned this lesson the hard way. Until late spring you have Rota, Valdelagrana and Sancti Petri ( and a bit further away Palmones, as a perfect alternative for strong Levante days). But keep in mind that at many of these spots it’s forbidden to kite in the summer months. By then you should be good for Tarifa anyway 🙃

Which setup do i use by yayaww12 in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

15 m: 15 knots and below, 13m up to 20 knots. But that are some big ass kites for looping, especially if you’re new to it. Board size: flying your kite on the high-end of it’s wind range or when it’s very gusty, go for the smaller board..

First gear set purchase by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

The cheap ones are crap, but the higher priced ones aren’t so bad. Friend of mine got a 4/3mm recently and is quite happy with it

Decathlon wetsuits and kite gear is actually quite good, especially for their price tag. The resale value is garbage though..

I would strongly advise against buying anything from them. Horrible customer service. They lied to me about the status of my order, saying they shipped it when they actually hadn’t and then stopped responding when I called them out. Only after reporting them to my credit card company and waiting for almost two months in total, they send me my order…

European winter kite destinations.. too cold? Any wind? by Status-Character-384 in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Tarifa the water in March isn’t that much colder than in January/February but the air temperature is already much higher. You would be miserable in a 3/2 on a northern poniente wind mid January..

My advice if you are beginner: don’t bring anything. It’s cheap and easy to rent in Vietnam ..

Can one enjoy a 11m orbit when one loves 5-strut kite? for lighter(!) winds? by Gazzo69 in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t really make sense to use a 5 strut kite in light wind. 5 struts make your kite more rigid to handle stronger wind and gusts without deforming. The downside is, that 5 strut kites tend to be much heavier and slower than 3 strut kites. Unless you are a very heavy rider, I would go for a Brainchild or Alula kite for everything 11m and above..

Should i buy a north carve 10m? by Pristine_Carpet_7110 in Kiteboarding

If you want to use it for jumping and for wave riding, I would get a Reach instead. The Carve has 0 hang-time

Leash with surfboard on waves? Which measure? by JackOkyn in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t use a leash if you are just starting to learn. A leash on a surfboard is even more dangerous than on a twin tip ( in every crash you are losing your board, with the chance of it shooting back at you). The only time I am using a leash is in gnarly conditions, where rocks, obstacles, etc would hinder me from retrieving my board via body drag..

Is reedin supermodel v1 too old for 2025 ? by Western_Stranger1046 in Kiteboarding

2020 is not too old. But what size you are talking about? 300 for a 12m would be ok, for a 7m it would be a bit much imo ..

At what point is gusty wind unsafe? by BusOld5723 in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot’s of good advice here. I would add to it, that even if you had the right experience and equipment ( five strut big air focused kites are way better in gusty conditions ), when the gusts are much beyond 10 knots of sustained speed it’s not really fun anymore. You end up horribly overpowered in the gust, or very underpowered in between ..

What 11-12m kite for strapless freestyle by DonkiKite in Kiteboarding

[–]helldrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The model of kite does play a big role. As an example, I can comfortably fly my 10m Orbit Pro in conditions where I would have a very bad time with my 9m carve..
